amalahama Posted August 17, 2011 Posted August 17, 2011 Hi! Is there any way to get a CCIP release with guided weapon, that actually guide the weapon to the pepeer position in the release instant? I mean, I want a GBU-38 or CBU-103/105 to be guided to my CCIP release point, correcting wind drift, without any target designation. Is it possible? Regards!
fragged Posted August 17, 2011 Posted August 17, 2011 Not possible. You can't release guided munitions with CCIP. There's probably some technical reasons why this is not possible. Also, why would you want to?
LostOblivion Posted August 17, 2011 Posted August 17, 2011 You can release LGBs with CCIP. I do it some times, when I'm in a hurry. Nice plane on that gun... OS764 P930@4 MBUD3R M6GB G5870 SSDX25 CAntec1200 HTMHW

Also, why would you want to? Well it makes sense if you want to do CCIP bombing in a windy day... Sometimes you need the quick "aim and drop" ability of CCIP mode, but with the precision of guiding bombs. But you probably are right, it might be not technically feasible since JDAM coords takes some time to be dumped from aircraft to bomb (but even in that case, the bomb would be dropped a little bit late but it should still be able to guide to the CCIP selected impact point). Maybe using Mark Z and laser bombs, with a post-drop lasing, something can be done, but it's too cumbersome... Regards!

I'm not looking for dropping guided bombs as dumb bombs in CCIP mode. I'm looking for dropping a guided bomb in CCIP mode and being actively guided to the designed impact point. Regards!
Eddie Posted August 17, 2011 Posted August 17, 2011 Use the TDC to set your SPI, if you can see the target that'll be quicker than using the TGP. But if you're really in that much of a rush, well, thats what dumb bombs are for. At low level you should have no issues getting them on target with a bit of practice. But what you're after re: CCIP mode is not possible. Apart from with LGBs, you can release them via CCIP and they will still guide on any laser spot they see (with the correct code). Of course if you're doing that, you may as well drop them normally. Unless you have someone else to buddy lase for you.
711Hancer Posted August 17, 2011 Posted August 17, 2011 I think GBU-38 cannot be released in CCIP mode. You cannot switch it to CCIP from DSMS.

LGBs can still guide in CCIP as long as you lase the target or have someone else do it. That is what I meant. I rarely drop GBUs as dumb bombs. CCIP release cannot be done with JDAMs or WCMDs. Dejjvid Posted August 17, 2011 Posted August 17, 2011 12's can be CCIP'ed and guided with no problem at all. I believe 38's can't be CCIP'ed because it takes approx. 2 secs before location data (spi) to be transferred to the bomb. Therefore, it's really hard to keep the reticle on the target and get a good target fix. Why would you CCIP 38's any way? They are precision guided munitions. It's really hard to designate an exact point while diving, through the HUD.
