S77th-Paralyzer Posted August 21, 2005 Posted August 21, 2005 Build a mission with a bandit flying toward you with no missles. Turn labels on. Look at the lights, look at the distance. Then you'll know it as well as anybody. There you go. Not too technical and gets directly to the point :).

Kula66 Posted August 21, 2005 Posted August 21, 2005 For me, flying F-15s ... the tactics that give me trouble are bandits that beam me at about 20/25 miles - just before I shoot ... disappear off the scope, then you have to madly scan for them! If you fly high, which is good in the 15, you have the problem of having to scan the radar down to search for low flyers ... A good pilot will beam and disappear off the screen at say 20 miles, get under the radar scan cone ... pop back up at 10/15 and get a shot off ... you MAY be able to use an ET (the missile that gets me most often!). You will probably also have to dodge the 120 return shot! For the guys that do it in RL ... where if you make a mistake you die ... I take my hat off to you!
S77th-Basscadet Posted August 21, 2005 Posted August 21, 2005 "" A good pilot will beam and disappear off the screen at say 20 miles, get under the radar scan cone ... pop back up at 10/15 and get a shot off "" one of my favorite an most positive maneuvers to make a successful kill, i may even let off a missile or 2 before i commit to disappearing for a sneaky 'Basscadet' "just when you thought they stopped putting monkeys in planes"
Kula66 Posted August 21, 2005 Posted August 21, 2005 Now when you see someone do that you know that you are going to have to work at it! Turn yourself to try and get him out of the notch and move the radar up/down alot ... possibly switch to narrow scan to give you a better scan rate - switch to SST 'cos its going to be a snap shot and run when you find him!
GGTharos Posted August 21, 2005 Posted August 21, 2005 Switch visual tracking, and an automode ... after 1.11, no more CAC modes locking aircraft up beyond 10km for the Russian aircraft, which is probably what gave them a siginificant advantage in that particular range envelope together with beaming etc. Now the F-15C's automodes will have approximately twice the range of the Russian CAC modes, thus giving that advantage to the F-15 while the russian birds need to have their radar antennae fiddled with to lock onto a target. I have seen alot of team work on this tactic, seeing be aplied a dozen times in the last 2 days. Not only the S77 beams but they also rely on other squad menbers to serve as a distraction while the other come out of beam to shoot me. Often I spend so much time searching for the one beaming that the "distrcaction" catches me off guard. My kill score went downhilll. .
