I have dont a bug search in the forums and found nothing. I am running Win7 home premium on a 64bit system and the template generate does not work for me. VFA41_Lion Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 Yeah, its complicated as hell. Screwing around with it, I managed to generate some units by clicking on a node, selecting a bunch of different templates and clicking generate.
kylania Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 I certainly can't! :) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Christmas Cheer - A Landing Practice Mission : Beta Paint Schemes : HOTAS Keyboard Map : Bingo Fuel - A DCS A-10C Movie
dooom Posted September 22, 2011 Author Posted September 22, 2011 the GUI manual references that there is a section about using it but i can't find it - I actually dont think the section was written yet. VFA41_Lion Posted September 23, 2011 Posted September 23, 2011 I only found this on page 62 in the GUI manual: Mission Generator The Mission Generator selection opens the Mission Generator menu. The Mission Generator is a powerful tool, which can be used to create battle scenarios throughout the entire map. The Mission Generator creates missions for the Create Fast Mission application. Using the Mission Generator menu of the mission editor, you can edit or create new possible mission generation options for Create Fast Mission. The Mission Generator pull-down menu includes the following four items: GENERATE, NODES, TEMPLATES, and SAVE. GENERATE. Opens the Fast Create Mission (Advanced Mode) menu to generate a mission. NODES. Opens the Mission Nodes panel and displays all default node templates on the map. This menu can be used to create new nodes or edit/remove default ones. Nodes define where blue and red forces can be spawned on the map. TEMPLATES. Opens the Templates Editor panel. This menu can be used to create new templates or edit/remove default ones. Templates are used to edit the unit types, numbers, and formations used when populating nodes. SAVE. Clicking SAVE will save the settings of all nodes and templates. 1
dooom Posted September 23, 2011 Author Posted September 23, 2011 woefully inadequate... :( ASUS Tuf Gaming Pro x570 / AMD Ryzen 7 5800X @ 3.8 / XFX Radeon 6900 XT / 64 GB DDR4 3200 "This was not in the Manual I did not read", cried the Noob" - BMBM, WWIIOL
VFA41_Lion Posted September 23, 2011 Posted September 23, 2011 To be honest, I rarely use the mission generator anyway. Too much fun in the regular editor. :D
dooom Posted September 24, 2011 Author Posted September 24, 2011 I agree - i use the regular editor but what i am trying to do is use te templates and node generators to save a tonne of work while building my missions. VFA41_Lion Posted September 24, 2011 Posted September 24, 2011 I tried to do that earlier today. For some reason it doesn't work if you've already placed units in the mission editor, but if the first thing you do is create a fast mission and use whatever nodes and templates you want, it works.
dooom Posted September 25, 2011 Author Posted September 25, 2011 hmmm - ok will check that out and report back... If i recall though, the fast mission generator did not give access to all the nodes - only the cursor type of "batlle area" choices and no choice to choose red blue countries.... shagrat Posted September 25, 2011 Posted September 25, 2011 (edited) Hmm, I suggest we are talking about the Mission Editors "Mission Generator Menu". I did play around with this and tried some stuff. 1 - The "Generate..." option simply opens the "Create fast mission" advanced view 2 - The "Nodes" option can be used to define new nodes for "Generated squirmishes" BUT ALSO to pregenerate a battlefield  To do so open a "new" / empty mission, select coalitions. Then open "Mission Generator Menu" - "Nodes" and select any of the existing nodes or create your own with "add". Now you see the according RED and BLUE nodes highlighted and below you may select templates for the red and blue forces (standards for this node are already chosen). E.g. select node "52 - SW-lanchuti-1" Red has "Red offensive - medium 1" and "Red defensive - medium 1" preselected, which is ok, now deselect the blue ones and replace it with "Blue defensive - large 2" You see a lot of rectangles on the map, representing the areas where the according units (zoom in to see "Tank 1", "IR SAM Avenger" etc.) will be generated... Now click on "Generate" (below the Templates) and after a few seconds voila: A nice battleground filled with units and attack routes etc. :bounce: ATTENTION! If units (respectively their "boxes") are placed over water or other unsuitable terrain etc. the generation will not proceed! I deem this absolutely useful to easily produce some "war going on" for your missions... 3 - Templates - Here you may produce or adopt your own unit templates. e.g. you may copy the "Red offensive - Large 2" template and reduce the air cover, delete some individual tanks in the template etc. to design something like an attrited regimental group or you may produce your own country specific unit templates - perhaps a Leopard 2 tank battalion :D EDIT: you may also drag around the boxes for the units to better fit into cities or hills etc. before you generate and of course you can fine tune the units positions after generation.
