Hello!

Has anyone else encountered this rather annoying problem? Never disturbs my gaming but it does happen at odd moments whilst at the windows desktop just browsing sites.

Just googled it and seems there are a few with the same issues, problem is there are no glitches (well, that's not a problem) but, what I mean is when running intensive games there is no issue at all. I have a 550W PSU , see my sig for my PC spec) and I'm fairly sure this isn't the problem.(?) The issue seems to have only come about after recent driver updates so I've just downloaded driver 267 from the ASUS website for my particular model and am currently seeing what happens. I've also changed the power saving feature for PCI Express in windows to moderate instead of off, which is what it's been set to for a while.

Posting to see if there are any others who've had this 'driver stopped responding and then recovering successfully' message?

I only get that one with extreme infrequency (once a year, maybe two, over my Vista and 7 "career"), and didn't actually bother tracking it down back then, but have you checked for relevant messages in Windows Event Viewer?

Yeah, all it says, listed as a warning, is:

Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has successfully recovered.

EventID Qualifiers="0">4101

which then leads to this place:

Seems it's something to do with Nvidia drivers or a dodgy Microsoft update. I really don't see it being the card as I have no problems whatsoever running games, no glitches or artifacts.

same troubles ever since updating nvidia drivers to latest 280x release. updated to 285 beta, trouble is less frequent but still happening. never had those problems before.

not so much of a problem at the moment, so i'll probably wait for the 285 to come out of beta and see how that works before is start really working on the fix.

After I post this I'm sure it'll probably happen again...but since changing the PCI Express Link State Power Management setting from 'Off' to 'Moderate power savings', the problem has seemingly been solved for me. This has been the case for the last 3 days.

I really doubt it's the card failing but more a Windows 7/Nvidia driver issue. I'll see what happens.

Just make sure your GFX cooler is not clogged with dust and that the fan is rotating before conluding its a bad card.

The error is sporadic but might accelerate once the condition of the card worsens. This can take months.

Yeh that's fair enough, Pilot, but then again it never causes a problem whilst gaming where the temp rarely gets above 60 degrees. It's a 2D desktop problem.

Again, another two days is it, since doing this and no stopped responding errors.

Just to report that the issue still hasn't come back. I did, however, forget to mention that I reverted back to the 267.85 drivers at the time as well.

Not once have I had the stopped responding message and the card has been fine running games and just browsing tinterweb.
