PeterP Posted October 14, 2011 Posted October 14, 2011 (edited) Thanks for posting! Finaly I can see the ATI 5870 Eyefinity 6 with programs in a resolution that's interesting for my (atm shelfed) project - instead seeing benchmarks with the same boring égo-shooters again and again... :P (the price of the 5870 gets more and more in my range I would spend for a new card...) Can you tell me/has anyone info what exact resolution is used in this vid ? ;)For all that are too lazy to open another tab in your browser: Edited October 14, 2011 by PeterP

I currently use the 5x1 portrait setup fitted to a custom stand with castors which we made inhouse. The 6th screen of the Samsung MD230x6 setup is used as an instrument panel. I am getting a water jet cut aluminium overlay made, to finish it off. 1
PeterP Posted October 14, 2011 Posted October 14, 2011 Thank you! - ;) and thanks for creating a account to answer! -welcome! may I ask... - how is the overall impression - is the GPU able to handle 5400x1920 in "almost" every situation - meaning HDR in DCS for instance...?

rcsimulations Posted October 14, 2011 Posted October 14, 2011 Generally as you can see, the frame rates are very acceptable. The only time that I would say that they were a bit choppy is with FSX and Broken high definition clouds but even then not too bad.
PeterP Posted October 14, 2011 Posted October 14, 2011 (edited) Thanks for coming back and answer my questions rcsimulations ! Are you that cool guy in this vid?! ;) hats off and respect!! Thanks for your opinion on that card ! (what card can render a cloudy day in FSX?!... still searching) Browsed your site often lately- Really impressed by the cadet set-up. - please PM me if you have a "very-very-special-special" offer for becoming fathers...:D I will also take a broken unit - I will sure fix it my own....:P Thanks for taking the time and stopping by! rcsimulations Posted October 14, 2011 Posted October 14, 2011 That is me, I had great fun doing that. What is state of the art changes though and when I complete my current set up, I will put another video up to show the progress and hopefully inspire others. Re the Cadet Controls, we don't actually ever get any second hand and todate no broken units at all. Because we build in stainless steel it, it has actually been quite difficult to build them at the price we do so it could be a wait :). Take a look on our site under "Special Projects" 1
PeterP Posted October 16, 2011 Posted October 16, 2011 Many thanks for your opinion - Seems that I have to write a letter to Santa... Keep us updated!
trigen Posted October 16, 2011 Posted October 16, 2011 On the note of Fsx if you turn water to 0 you can pretty much run every other slider on full, even on a 5x1 setup. i used a 6970 with a general fps of 60 and about 35 in payware airports etc.Fsx really dont use much gpu power tho, mostly pross (even 60fps with anaglyph 3d, something you should try, makes fsx more vibrant too. iz3d free driver) Had this setup for about a week, then smoke came out of one monitor and its now dead, i knew it was too good to be true. 1080 ti, i7700k 5ghz, 16gb 3600 cl14 ddr4 oc
ED Team JimMack Posted October 16, 2011 Author ED Team Posted October 16, 2011 Would be great if we had VoxATC for DCS - see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JTvd4wITsuo&feature=player_detailpage As you see, Bob, as well being a flight sim enthusiast is a real life fixed/rotary wing pilot. 1 Having problems? I think that you are right about the water. I think that mine is set to 2xlow but I will check the result. I have just posted another video which has taken me ages to make. It is a mixture of a realword and virtual flight in a Piper Tomahawk http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JTvd4wITsuo&feature=player_detailpage IT features a cunning piece of hardware that turns an actual aviation headset into a USB headset. I hope that you and everyone else enjoys it

Succellus Posted October 16, 2011 Posted October 16, 2011 Very interesting, portrait monitors feels much more natural (to me) thank the claustrofobic 16/3 landscape X3, such feels looking at the world trought a medieval full helmet. But in the video the bezels really gets in the way and would be a killer . I really wonder if 3 full hd 32" 1920 tv in portrait wouldn t provide better immersion. Actually i m much more happy with my 37" TV than 3 24 monitors for example. If i had to do something i would go 3X 37" portrait. But i m not sure there s hardware to it, nor do i feel the need... yet. Ho yes, and don t think i have the space. Still need thinner bezels for that. HaF 922, Asus rampage extreme 3 gene, I7 950 with Noctua D14, MSI gtx 460 hawk, G skill 1600 8gb, 1.5 giga samsung HD. Track IR 5, Hall sensed Cougar, Hall sensed TM RCS TM Warthog(2283), TM MFD, Saitek pro combat rudder, Cougar MFD.
rcsimulations Posted October 16, 2011 Posted October 16, 2011 You are right about the bezels but to tell you the truth, in portrait you hardly notice them. What you do get with the layout that I have is because the monitors are hinged, they wrap around you plus 5440x1920 resolution is not to be sniffed at. I suppose it is just a matter of personal choice
