Cali Posted October 17, 2011 Posted October 17, 2011 Need some input on Cougar FCC2, pro's and cons, thinking about getting one. i7-4820k @ 3.7, Windows 7 64-bit, 16GB 1866mhz EVGA GTX 970 2GB, 256GB SSD, 500GB WD, TM Warthog, TM Cougar MFD's, Saitek Combat Pedals, TrackIR 5, G15 keyboard, 55" 4K LED
Gadroc Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 Pro: It's force sensing Con: It's force sensing Either you like force sensing or you don't. It can be incredibly accurate once you get used to it, but you have to completely retrain yourself. I could never get used to mine, but I know others who can't fly with out it now. It's a good piece of kit and I didn't have problems with mine while I had it.
WRFirefox Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 Force sensing = hate it, or love it! I love it and using the Saitek X-65F - just try it....
Cali Posted October 18, 2011 Author Posted October 18, 2011 Gonna talk to the guy tonight and work out the details, hope this Cougar works this time. i7-4820k @ 3.7, Windows 7 64-bit, 16GB 1866mhz EVGA GTX 970 2GB, 256GB SSD, 500GB WD, TM Warthog, TM Cougar MFD's, Saitek Combat Pedals, TrackIR 5, G15 keyboard, 55" 4K LED
PoleCat Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 (edited) One of my Cougars is an FSSB R1 and it works just fine. My preference was for the nxt mod although I now use the TM Warthog and love it the most. Force sensing is pretty cool though and as stated here once you get used to it you can be very precise. If you can't manage to get your Cougar to work this time try to find some one who is very experienced with Cougar installs to help you. It can be a little tricky but most people don't have any trouble getting them setup properly. Good luck. Out Edited October 18, 2011 by PoleCat http://www.104thphoenix.com/
Cali Posted October 19, 2011 Author Posted October 19, 2011 The guy I'm going to buy it from is going to uninstall it and reinstall and write a step by step procedure on what he did. I was thinking of getting the Warthog, but I'm not a big fan of the throttle. I'm gonna trade my CH and some cash for this Cougar, if it doesn't work, I'll buy new CH and wait til I build me a new computer or keep messing with the Cougar. Thinking of selling your Cougar PC? i7-4820k @ 3.7, Windows 7 64-bit, 16GB 1866mhz EVGA GTX 970 2GB, 256GB SSD, 500GB WD, TM Warthog, TM Cougar MFD's, Saitek Combat Pedals, TrackIR 5, G15 keyboard, 55" 4K LED
Prophet Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 How much more tricky can it be, than install software, plug in? If its any more tricky than that, its a failure of a product. Besides a software engineer to write a custom driver, not sure you could get better support than Cali had. Luckily, I have not had a problem getting mine installed. Plenty with the damn PCB in the throttle failing. I hear flying the BS, and helo's in general, can be a pain with the FFB.

I had all but sold the FSSB R1 already (without the Cougar)but decided at the last minute not to. So no I don't think so. I will keep all four of them even though the Warthog is my new preference for A10-C. Janet and I still use the Cougars a lot as well as my friends who do LAN play with me. I also demo flight sims and gaming rigs for my customers. I really like how impressed they are when I let them fly using my Cougars. The whole package has helped me sell more than a few complete flight sim enabled gaming rigs. Out http://www.104thphoenix.com/

It is quite unsual that no one could get it working for him. This is clearly the exception and not the rule. No failure of the product I can find over dozens of installs. If the support Cali was given was so good he would now be flying with a Cougar. It is far from rocket science to install it properly. Maybe he has a system level or software issue rather than a Cougar problem. You wouldn't likely need a software engineer at all but rather a very good PC technician to fix this problem. Particularly if he has only got one to work out of four. That is an abysmal record. Probably the worst I have ever heard of considering I and many others have had a 100% success rate. Vekkinho Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 Feels kinda weird you know...I mean, I never used force sensing sticks b4 so few years back when I tried a Cougar modded to FCC2 on my FC1.12a install I was all over the place during landing approach and other precise flying moments. I know it takes time of getting used to but those few weeks I had it at my place didn't make me used to it. So I'm kinda thumbs down here. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Cali Posted October 19, 2011 Author Posted October 19, 2011 I'm sure it will take some getting use to, since I was already in the air when I flew the real thing it was fine, landing could be a different story. Still working out the details and if it doesn't work....I'll be getting a new set of CH. i7-4820k @ 3.7, Windows 7 64-bit, 16GB 1866mhz EVGA GTX 970 2GB, 256GB SSD, 500GB WD, TM Warthog, TM Cougar MFD's, Saitek Combat Pedals, TrackIR 5, G15 keyboard, 55" 4K LED

And most of the people helping him, would out qualify most 'very good PC technicians'. Regardless of what you want to believe, the support was that good. None better. It was even tried on a system, that had a Cougar installed and working on it previously. Quite clearly a failure of the product. Clear to anyone with enough sense. But hey, all fan boys need their excuses, other wise they couldnt justify to themselves to continue being fanboys. 1
PoleCat Posted October 20, 2011 Posted October 20, 2011 (edited) This is your idea of a very good PC technician? Sorry but 3 out 4 Cougars not working by his own admission is not a failure of the product and it is an abysmal record for anyone supporting him. Why for years now does Cali find the need to post negatively in every thread where the Cougar is even mentioned his almost unbelievable inability to get ANY Cougar working but for one out of four which he did not like? His plight with the Cougar is clearly his own uniquely weird experience. Name calling is all you got left. Out Edited October 21, 2011 by PoleCat http://www.104thphoenix.com/
Prophet Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 If being called a fanboy is name calling. I call it an observation. Especially in the face of your implied insults.

His plight with the Cougar is clearly his own uniquely weird experience. Name calling is all you got left. Out Once again you fail to see that I took it over to someone else's house and they tried it on not 1, but 2 of their computers. If you read my thread, I tried to install it on not 1, but 3 computers at my house from XP, Vista and Windows 7. Say what you want polecat and I have said many times before that I like Cougars. What I don't like is that 3 that I have tried did not work on 5 different computers. Yes, if must be my fault, I guess I'm stupid. I followed step by step instructions from the cougar site, cubpilot site, people in here and people in my squad. If I had problems with CH, I would say the same thing. I told you before, I like what WORKS for me, not what EVERY one else thinks is good. Let's not get into the name calling. What have I said about TM in every thread? I have said I hope it works and people don't have any problems, especially when people's brand new Warthog's were bricking on them. $500 dollar paper weight, nice. You have to admit that TM doesn't have a very good record on releases. For the price people pay for them...they should have ZERO issues. The brand new Cougars I bought last summer still had stuff wrong with them and how long has it been since they have been released? I started this thread to found out what people said about a FCC modded Cougar, not to restart something from a thread that was closed. So, if we could can we keep it that way. i7-4820k @ 3.7, Windows 7 64-bit, 16GB 1866mhz EVGA GTX 970 2GB, 256GB SSD, 500GB WD, TM Warthog, TM Cougar MFD's, Saitek Combat Pedals, TrackIR 5, G15 keyboard, 55" 4K LED
PoleCat Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 Sure no problem. Nice story. It Illustrates the main point of your posts perfectly. And in the end you get to say how bad the Cougar is once again and the Warthog as well. Surprise! :D And I am the fan boy. Out http://www.104thphoenix.com/
Cali Posted October 21, 2011 Author Posted October 21, 2011 Does anyone have a problem flying DSC BS with this mod or something like it? i7-4820k @ 3.7, Windows 7 64-bit, 16GB 1866mhz EVGA GTX 970 2GB, 256GB SSD, 500GB WD, TM Warthog, TM Cougar MFD's, Saitek Combat Pedals, TrackIR 5, G15 keyboard, 55" 4K LED
Gadroc Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 Depends on what you mean by fly. It worked with out problem. I had a hell of a time trying to fly helicopters with a force sensing stick, but Flim swore by it. Like I said though I never quite got the hang of it in fixed wing either. 1
WRFirefox Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 At this point i can only speak about Force-Sensing and Helicopter. cause i use the Saitek X-65F and BS is momentary not installed. But i am flying Helicopter in FSX and ArmA OA and with Force-Sensing is it also a pleasure, cause the precision is still awesome! So once again - try it and then you can love it or you leave it - there is nothing in between......... 1
Cali Posted October 21, 2011 Author Posted October 21, 2011 Thx guys, just waiting on a few things from the seller, then to work out the details. i7-4820k @ 3.7, Windows 7 64-bit, 16GB 1866mhz EVGA GTX 970 2GB, 256GB SSD, 500GB WD, TM Warthog, TM Cougar MFD's, Saitek Combat Pedals, TrackIR 5, G15 keyboard, 55" 4K LED
Cali Posted November 4, 2011 Author Posted November 4, 2011 (edited) I guess I got 3 bad brand new Cougars last summer, cause I have a FCC2 modded one now and it installed with NO problems!!! I checked all the buttons and they work. Now I'll have to modify a FC2 profile and get a Falcon BMS one also. I guess the 5th Cougar was the charm. Can't wait to fly it tonight. Now it's time to test this baby out later, need some sleep. So I guess it wasn't me or my friends that weren't computer savoy, it was 3 bad brand new Cougars, someone needs to say sorry, polecat. EDIT: Need to find some curve settings now. Cali Posted November 10, 2011 Author Posted November 10, 2011 What axis are you guys using in game for the rotaries and radar cursor?
