amos2006 Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 Hi everyone, i have a question about the wingman. I am playing the campaign and my wingman seems pretty good at spotting targets, as soon as i turn into the first waypoint he starts spotting targets, and he says what kind of target it is, direction (10 o'claock, 12 o'clock, etc), and distance. But the problem is that he spot a lot of targets and i can't find them all as fast as he speak. So my question: is there anyway that he can mark them on TAD? that will be very useful. If thats not posible, how do you do it to manage all that information? I usually use the TAD to locate aproximate position and then slew the TGP to that position, but that doesnt seem good enough to find all the targets he spots. Thanks in advance and sorry for my english.
RodBorza Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 Welcome to the forums! Well, the wingman is a superhuman mutant, with powers beyond a simple pilot understanding. He has a super eagle eye vision, that can see beyond any human or TGP pod can. But what he has in terms of super vision, he lacks in intelligence. The AI has much to be improved and it is understandable why ED takes so long to improve it, because many of the decisions we take flying the Hog are intuitive. So, for the most part of it, ignore his calls. And stick to the plan. Read the briefing, contact the JTAC, get/input the data on the computer and get going. The guy on the ground (JTAC) wil always tell you the threats that matter the most for your part of the mission. The wingie will call out many threats and targets out there, but since there is a big war going on, all you can do is your small, but valuable part. In resume, ignore his calls, pay attention to JTAC and AWACs calls and stay focusd on your objective at hand. Hunting targets aimelessly seem good, but in the big picture (a commander's point of view) is not always attainable nor desirable. This is an amazing sim! 'Nuff said!:pilotfly: YouTube: SloppyDog
Fish Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 And don't forget to get him to 'attack targets at your SPI', when you find them. It may take all of your ordinance and his to achieve the mission objectives. If you pick up high threat targets, AAA or sams, you can narrow your command for him to attack those type only. Torment Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 So my question: is there anyway that he can mark them on TAD? that will be very useful. From what I've observed, there's only two things that will get pushed to your TAD via the data link. First the JTAC tasking messages, and second the SPI of other attacking aircraft including your wingman. The latter are identifiable as looking like your SPI but with one less tier on the "wedding cake". So one way of finding targets would be to order your wingman to engage enemy ground targets, look at your TAD to see what he's targeting, then order rejoin before he engages. I believe you'll also see a blue line extending from him to his SPI. So with the TAD as SOI you could hook his SPI and command yours to that location with TMS up long. It would be awesome if the wingman could "recon" similar to BS where he transmits data link targets to the ABRIS. Shootist Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 . So with the TAD as SOI you could hook his SPI and command yours to that location with TMS up long. . Would this be the same with fellow players in MP? With my very limited online experience I often have a real hard time finding targets or especially avoiding sams. It would be awesome if I could slew to someone elses' target from a safe distance. Yes, just press tab and ask someone to share a SPI. Intelligent discourse can only begin with the honest admission of your own fallibility. Guest Fury_007 Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 Yes, just press tab and ask someone to share a SPI. I never really minded broadcasting my spi in multiplayer Until (can't remember the mission) I take the time of entering briefing coordinates into cdu, then scour the area with tgp to finally find the targets, then as I'm going in for the attack run.... Blam!!! Someone shoots a Maverick and my targets on fire. Some people just fly around targeting other pilots' spis. Now I don't broadcast all that often, unless on a mission with a few pilots with teamspeak playing as a team.
Phantom453 Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 How do I share my SPI exactly? Is it automatic as long as I have the data link turned on, or is there something else I need to do to share/ send it? Thanks.
