...to try the vulnerable mode enabled from the logbook, at least every now and then. I tend to practice and do fun stuff with the invulnerable one, but it get's whole lotta more interesting to fly even simple missions with the "dead is dead" mode. For example i've setup a few missions where there is just low-level threat's (shilkas & strelas) around for practice missions, but even those do get very tedious when you know the precious flight hours logged(not to mention the medals and promotions XD ) could be thrown away in a second. Keeps your focus on a new level I'd say. Dang it, even flying the traffic circuit is fun and needs concentration this way, let alone air refueling.. :smilewink:.

Although, I have to add, I'm still learning the sim, and I have very little experience from the campaign, and for now my connection is way too slow for serious MP, I therefore don't know how the "dead is dead" comes around playing the campaign, but I'll definitely try after I have some hours with the stick AND with the manual.

Do you fly with invulnerable set to off? Share your experience!

I just bought the sim and still learning.

But I have some simulator background, and I actually enjoy the learning phase the most in any sim.

So I put up the challenge to myself to start out the a not invulnerable pilot.

I want to see how far I get with it.

Currently I have 33 min on him, 0 target :D

Sadly the training missions do not log you any time. The 33 min I have is from the free flight single mission.

I just flew around the way points checked out the weapon systems than landed.

But it was a bit intense cus it was so heavy crosswind my whole hud was off the screen :DD

Was fun sweaty palms for sure. :joystick:

In the Campaign if you are vulnerable then if you die the campaign restarts. Why I tend not to fly with it.

Always remember. I don't have a clue what I'm doing

I accidentally turned off Invulnerability and didn't realize it until yesterday. I had taken a 1-week hiatus from A-10c in which I spent my time mostly flying the B377 over in FSX. I decide to fly a quick mission in A-10c as I just got a new stick and decided on a working button configuration.

I load up the Sitting Ducks mission and overfly the group of enemies. The AAA rips off my left wing tip and takes out my CDU and MFCD's. In the confusion of trying to turn on the clickable cockpit to turn off the master alarm I hit Ctrl+C instead of ALT+C and lose my canopy. Luckily I'm able to make it to the nearby friendly airport and land in one piece. Undeterred from what just happened I restart the mission and try again.

I fly over the AAA again(I learned the error of my ways on the third try :P) and get hit with another burst. I'm not sure which systems it took out, all I know is both engines are no longer working and I'm plummeting like a rock, to make matters worse I go into a death spiral. Realizing the ground is fast approaching and that there is no way I'm going to be able to pull out, I eject. But at this point in time it's too late, my pilot is thrown into the ground and seconds later the plane explodes next to him.

Exit out to debriefing to be informed that my pilot has died.

Luckily he only had about an hour worth of flight time more or less, and didn't have any medals or promotions.

I did. It was fun until my wingman smashed into me and killed me, due to psychotic AI behavior after I abandoned a landing.

I've learned the hard way to order the prick to orbit before I call inbound.

Most of the time, you will not explode and die in the 1 sec.. just hit esc, go out of the mission. even before eject.

- if you have clean the target assigned, the mission will continue as if you have hit esc.

- If you have not sucess, i have seen 2 cases, the mission restart and you can do it again, or in some case it continue. ( can be a bug ).

I am using Vunerable, and admitted allready had too recreate 2 new pilots :P ATM now on 23hrs and 14 landings and still breathing :D

Somehow it pushes me too be extra carefully and rethink every action i take, but granded i'm still learing the game, and last night was the first time i flew a Campaign mission :)

Allthough i returned savely with all ordance dropped, i had no kills just damaged a few tanks :(

As a sidenote - there are ways to "ressurect" a dead pilot, but it requires a bit of LUA hacking on the part of the user. But if you want the effect Arran describes but are afraid of getting your effort killed by computer issues or a bug, there is that option. :)

I'm flying the BTF campaign to get familiar with everything. Just logged my 5th hour. I will go into campaigns when I'm done with the training, I wonder how far I can get :D

Al right It happened, my second campaign 15 + hours lots of kills.

I finally died.

I could not eject in time :(

So time for that lua hacking you mentioned, I searched for the method but I only found hint for this for BS, and I could not find that folder they mention there.

Help me out to resurrect him pls.
