Arran Posted October 23, 2011 Posted October 23, 2011 Hey... I know there are many topics on this subject, but those seems to be in regard with the Lava Textures on prior patches, having troubles spotting them due blurryness.. wich aint my issue with MFCD's since are perfectly clear without blurry textures, and buildings and Civ vehicles wich i can easely spot on TGP are very High Res and indentifiable.. But other targets i just cant find, today i tried a self made mission with a number of vehicles going down a road, i just coudnt find them, even though i saw them visually, knew exactly where they are wich route speed etc.. I was in matter of fact so on top of them, they shot my allmost down with small arms fire :pilotfly: But i couln't see them on TGP and Mav when i was on top of them, even then it was pretty hard too see.. While Civiliian trucks and trains i can see on the TGP miles away and reconize them as such.. Militairy Units seems too be impossible too find.. So i'm clueless in what i'm doing wrong
ED Team BIGNEWY Posted October 23, 2011 ED Team Posted October 23, 2011 I always switch to WHOT or BHOT and adjust the gain a little then the targets are easier to spot. Forum rules - DCS Crashing? Hi Arran, ad welcome to DCS A10 TGP is a highly 'zoomed' instrument, and at close range even zoomed out, its FOV is very small. If you can see them visually, then you are pretty close, and using the TGP to 'search' is pretty ineffective. I suggest you slew the hud cursor (with HUD SOI,) on to them, TMS FWD long to to make a SPI, then CHINA FWD LONG to slave the TGP. If you are too close, just break away and come around again. Your TGP will be looking at the place you made your SPI, and even if your targets have moved on, you can start looking for them there. Don't forget to make the TGP the SOI (sensor of interest), as its movement is much less sensitive than the hud cursor. If that's all a bit much at once, try to understand making different instruments the SOI, then make a SPI (easiest from the hud), then slave your sensors to the SPI. There's lots of stuff including videos showing this, and also guides and the manual. Arran Posted October 23, 2011 Author Posted October 23, 2011 i think i start too grasp it slowly, and i think i making a really BIG NOOBLET misjudgement trying too make a A10c into a stealthy F117 / Apache by staying far ... FAR away from the target picking them off one by one from long distances with mavericks without laserguides or groundspotters .. But it seems i must be pretty close too actually use the TGP and make several passes taking on each pass one out if i want too be sure to hit the supposed target.. I can hit atm with Normal unguided Bombs on CCIP/CCRP allmost everything, but still the Maverick's and guided bomb are sadly still beyond me. Been reading :book: alot last few days and practicing alot (must admit, it does wonders on my precision flying and landings with went from utterly horrid skidding off the runway (mostly due a badly calibrated and tuned X45) too now allmost perfect touchdowns  so at least i am learning something ) Bignewy's tip does help a bit making them easier too spot, but i prolly need alot more practice before i even attempt too fly MP @FISH after alot of practicing i do start to grasp the SOI and SPI functions but i prolly use them not well enough, or keep forgetting a important step, at least need alot more practice with them. Biggest issue i have now is getting the Maverick Slaved too the TGP sometimes it seems to work and other times it just wont slave to the TGP The termology of all the instruments and knobs i'm still learning, but as far i figured out i need to have TGP as SOI, then i use CTRL-UPArrow too slave it to the TGP SPI, at least it seems too work occasionally. Still i love this Game, havent had such a blast since Falcon 4.0 :D Hope too get soon good enough for some MP games :music_whistling:
mjolner Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 Arran Try using Active-pause for practice sessions. Set up a mission with both static and moving armor and trucks, etc. Keep them within a close radius say less than 10 miles or so and set the targets within that radius at various distances and mix up the terrain a bit as well, trees, open fields and suburbs. Fly to a set waypoint near your targets within 10 miles, hit active-pause and start hunting. Active pause lets you interact with the cockpit while your hog is completely stationary, your moving targets continue to move, etc. You can play with SPI, SOI, and TGP till your palms grow hair.
