Hey guys,

just trying to setup a group of 3 mortars to fire at point. Is there anything needed to support it (troops, ammo)? I can only make it fire once and then it remains quite.

What do I need to do?

I seem to recall one of the Russian (I think the 2B11 mortar) vehicles (in the ME they are vehicles) that appears to have no crew or ammo when you look at the actual model in the sim. It is just a mortar sitting on it's base all by itself; looks really funny when you think you are placing a vehicle group and then see them lined up in the middle of the road.;)

I always wondered what would happen to that unit in combat. I never got around to seeing if they will move.

EDIT: Thought I had a shot of it.

All the artillery will only fire a burst of ammo and then sit quiet for some time until they reload. You can't really influence the reload rate (maybe skill level has something to do with it?). If you need to have continuous fire you'd need to set up separate groups and give them individual targeting so they start firing at different times.

Also bear in mind the mortar runs through its ammo pretty quickly and will likely have finished (or be nearly finished) firing by the time the first rounds start to land.

You don't need anything to support them, although I usually add some kind of transport truck and some infantry so it in order to explain how it got there and how it was firing. Also you can put the infantry in a different group and have them run away if you want to add a bit of excitement to the proceedings. From the brief research I did these mortars are usually served by 3 soldiers per mortar.

Did some test myself. They do indeed fire only once (several rounds), but never seem te reload. I let it running for 90 minutes. Al the other artillery units did a reload by that time.

Adding ground units does not change the behaviour.

Best way to use motors:

Have a truck driving around. The truck will stop inside a zone, after which, you will activate a motor "crew" and a motor. Shoot a couple rounds, then deactivate them. Have the truck start driving again, then at some location, stop, activate the motor crew and motor, shoot, deactivate, move, etc. Add in high civilian traffic and a truck that looks just about like any other, and you have yourself a nice little insurgent scenario :)

I've been planning on getting that into a mission sometime, but I've been too busy building mods.

First try to replace motors with mortars! ;)

He describes how to "script" a moving mortar team using zones and triggers of the ME.
