DCS: BS2 graphics -- with the times, or ahead of the times?

my current set up is running with 28 inch I-INC 16:10, usb monitors one 480 x 800 schvall, 900x1024 for abris for Black shark. on the A10c I have a second 480x800 lilliputs. cougar MFD's.

 

I get 40 to 70 fps

 

Im currently change out to the i7 2600k, ASUS P8Z68-V LX, Corsiar liquid h100

doesnt this game benefit from a high-end CPU/RAM setup rather then graphics card? I've got 2 3gig Q6600 PC's, one running a 8800GT the other a ATI6970 and they both do pretty much the same framerate.

 

My next purchase will definately be a 2600K and lots of RAM.

 

I have not done any scientific research, but from looking at my G19 keyboard, BS2 use about 4GB of RAM.

 

BF3 doesn't use much more when i did a quick test. I think the CPU is the biggest bottleneck if you have a decent GPU. Or to be more specific, the lack of multithreading is the bottleneck.

Looks good gagipro! Those 3GB 580s will come in handy.

 

I have a 1.5GB and I can see it maxing out the memory now in Black shark 2, it never did in Black Shark 1.

 

Some say SLI doesn't help, but it looks like it must in your case

 

I'll wait until next year for a Nvidia 680 before cranking up the shkval on another screen yet.

For such resolution (6020*1200), 3GB cards helps a lot for MSAA I think but with SLI, all the cards have the same datas in the vram, so that's very expensive for the gain. I don't really know if the 3WAY SLI helps, but I made some tests and SLI was quite linear, especially if your not VRAM limited. I can try to go from 3way sli to SLI to see if the 3rd card help for the framerate.

 

Yesterday's eve, I noticed stuttering while in battle (instant action insurgents), I'll try to remove some MSAA tonight.

 

I love this new 3D Engine for the Shark !!! I've been waiting for this since 2008! At that time I had 3*GTX280 1GB, but the 3D Engine in BS1 was not able to render correctly a nice zoom for 5760*1080. Now, like in A10C, the view is perfect !!!

Would you be able to test the single mission called "battle"?

 

I get 30fps in that there's quite alot going on, but wondering if others in high res get more?

 

I run high settings but no SSampling and no HDR or heat blur. 4x AA, 16xAF. Video ram is using all my 1.5gb for the 30"

 

CPU is sandy bridge 4.5ghz OC, with GTX580. Don't know what to do increase performance more.

 

My CPU is locked at 25%, so even Sandy bridge is capped due to single core.

Hi Taipan, I get from 11 to 47 on that one, but when I get 11. I

don't notice any degradation. I even finished it. Got some good fraps.

Tried to upload to YouTube they seem to be having an issue. I was stuck at

7% for 2 days so I stopped the upload.

Cool that's similar to me. 30fps when facing enemy.

 

50fps heading back to base.

 

Yeah it's definitely playable, just the occasional micro stutter as VRAM swaps more stuff in.

Get an SSD and that will stop, and turn off VRAM. If you have more than 6 GB you don't need it on.

Also turn down from 16x AS, to 8 you won't see a difference.

VRAM = the memory on the video card. Even if there was a way you don't want to turn that off.

 

There is also no harm in having a swap file, even if you have copious amounts of RAM.

That's what I meant yeah video RAM. MSI Afterburner shows it hitting 1500mb. I didn't think anyone still had data swapping to virtual ram ;)

 

Well I tested again on FULLSCREEN ticked. It actually does make a big difference now - 50FPS instead of 30 on that "battle" mission, even when facing the battle and I flew at some MBTs just to see if it would handle it.

 

It never used to make a difference, but now fullscreen does it seems.

 

Mastiff - I thought Anisotropic Filtering was "free"? in that it doesn't affect FPS on modern cards? hence I went with 16x

It is, but as the game already applies it automatically it is best to set it to "application controlled" in the drivers.

OK I try this evening : I'm sure it will stutter !!!
