TulsA-10 Posted November 7, 2011 Posted November 7, 2011 (edited) Looks like the A-10C has gotten another comm upgrade to the AN/ARC-210 Gen IV Warrior Programmable Digital Communication System. This is a pic of an a-10c from the 188th with the new radio instead of the old arc-186 used for FM in DCS a-10c. If ED ever plans to have an A-10C 2.0 patch like black shark i would find it cool to keep the jet up to date as much as possible and include the new arc-210. Here is some info about the radio. http://www.imrex.com.sg/Products/128/416/AN-ARC-210.aspx Edited November 7, 2011 by TulsA-10 2 " I'm gonna have to be taking your car today. Kaiza Posted November 8, 2011 Posted November 8, 2011 (edited) I remember this quote from a quite a while back out of interest: That is the control panel for the new AN/ARC-210 secure voice radio stack. I asked Wags about it and was told this would not be implemented- at least not in the first release. With a cost in the billion range, they are in short supply and are not in every A-10 anyway. Edited November 8, 2011 by Kaiza Removed a sentence- it would add additional frequency coverage I presume. jazjar Posted November 8, 2011 Posted November 8, 2011 Yes, not everyone is a TRUE warrior, only the TRUE warriors that study the way of the jet can have this radio. ( Am I correct in believing this? ) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Frostiken Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 (edited) While the capability of the radios is impressive, they are unfortunately giant pieces of expensive crap. SATCOM breaks all the damn time on them... the most reliable radio we have is still the original UHFs because it's the least-complicated one, which is probably why it's the only radio that hasn't been replaced. ARC-210s introduced a pile of LRUs along with them to include a high-power and low-noise amplifier as well as some very dodgy wiring... and with every LRU you've increased the chances of failure by that much as well. JHMCS is even worse. sweet how used the left engine throttle looks ;) That's because the right throttle grips are replaced all the time because there's so many switches in them that are used so often that they break all the time. The left grip has one semi-useless switch (lights? lol) and the autopilot engage and thus doesn't tend to break, whereas on the right grip the radio knobs break, the TDC resistors wear out, and, don't forget - they were recently replaced as part of the A-10C upgrade itself. PS: There is a special place in hell for the overpaid moron who designed the ARC-210's BIT system as well - featuring the most cryptically useless details of failure to such an extent that it's literally useless. Evil.Bonsai Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 sweet how used the left engine throttle looks ;) I'm sure every one of the A10s in service would look plenty used. So long as the dials turn and the buttons click, it's good to go. As to the above picture, should've rotated it 180 degrees. I've never seen the left console while standing on the boarding ladder, so it looked REALLY weird when I thought it was on the right side of the cockpit. A better view :)

I love to disagree with you on many things (although I keep it to myself) but here I have to agree publicly. :) I have been using these radios for a few years now and they are nice in some ways, but are huge headaches as well.
