ED Team BIGNEWY Posted November 9, 2011 ED Team Posted November 9, 2011 Hi all, I want to run my A-10c better but I am on a tight budget. I currently have a HD 5770 1gb and get frame rates any where from 10 - 45 fps. I have considered using crossfire but reading how it dosn't work that well did not want to invest in a second hd 5770 if the gain wasn't good Is there a budget card with 2gb or more that anyone would recommend ? budget is around £100 Forum rules - DCS Crashing? PeterP Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 (edited) What resolution you want to run - and how many monitors? Also please post the in game settings you are running right now when getting 10-45 fps. There are some big different between some cards. There is also the possibility that your card is fine - but your CPU isn't able to deliver the needed data fast enough. We have already many threads here were people upgraded the GPU and where disappointed that they had no better FPS afterwards. As Example : I see you run FaceTrackNoIR in your sig- this is very CPU demanding. So please drop all possible info - so we are not forced to give you a advise into the blue. Edit: Make a simple test : record a track in a campaign mission with some battle going on and replay it without FaceTrackNoIR on 1 - all settings you have right now. 2 - all settings at low - so see if your card is the bottleneck. Than compare the min/max/average FPS If your average FPS is much higher in #2 you could see a benefit in upgrading the GPU. Edited November 9, 2011 by PeterP
fragal Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 i've just picked one of these up as my 5770 seems to have developed an overheating issue. Slightly over the £100 budget but you get your 2 gigs with a slight boost on clock speed over the 5770. http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-156-EA&groupid=701&catid=1914&subcat=1576

Conure Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 Being honest there isn't much in the way of an upgrade for you at that price range. Something like a gtx460 would be a worthwhile step up but you're looking at the region of £150. (about 15/20fps more in graphics intensive games, I doubt you'd see these kind of gains in DCS A10). I should imagine that if you could get a gtx460 in there you'd probably be looking at a gain of about 10fps, which in the world of simulators is one hell of a big boost :) (I think that it would actually triple some peoples FPS with FSX:D ) Intel i7 6700k, Asus GTX1070, 16gb DDR4 @ 3200mhz, CH Fighterstick, CH Pro Throttle, CH Pro Rudder Pedals, Samsung Evo 850 SSD @ 500GB * 2, TrackIR 5 and 27" monitor running at 2560 * 1440, Windows 10.
PeterP Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 (edited) If this FPS numbers you have posted really represent what you get if FaceTrackNoIR is disabled - You schould run the test again with higher in-game settings (Textures high...) - and when they stay also almost never under 25 fps you should consider to invest this money in a TrackIR. (tackir makes all calculations in the hardware) -and fix your MaxFPS at 30 to get a more smooth experience. And as Concure already said - you have no really great options at this price-range for a card that will insignificant help you to get more out of your system. Edited November 9, 2011 by PeterP

Conure Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 Thanks for the advice, I will hold on replacing my GPU for now It'd be worth it. You have a good rig other than the card. Can you not ebay your card that you have now for a GTX? with your rig and the 460 the game will be beautiful!
