Is it wise to select the option in the options menu to load up HOTAS on startup ?

I have a x52-pro and i am constantly adapting the switches en buttons to my convenience but i don't understand that there are functions for HOTAS in the game's buttonassignments AND a different programmer with the joystick itself !

What do i use for the best ?

You can do almost all assingments in DCS itself but for some features like mapping the speedbrake to the slider on the X-52's throttle you need Saitek's profile software. For DCS-A10C I use a combination of profiler and DCS assignment.

I prefer to use the Saitek external configuration utility, because it's much easier to backup your x-52 profile than the Sim key-configuration file, that may get changed/be reseted with patching..

You can also configure it on-fly, and you can also create more complex stuff- like openning speedbrakes with slider.

Also, assigning names to keystrokes that get displayed on the x52 display is helpfull when learning the keys.

You have a point here !

That option is specifically for the HOTAS Warthog as far as I know..

I doubt that because the x52 is displayed in the game itself (keystrokes and other means to give commands)

Not really because that function would be for this example: on the TM WH you have the FF switches to override, but in the default A-10C cockpit they are set to NORM. The function you described is to to synch the TM WH controller with the DCS: A-10C cockpit (i.e. the switch in the cockpit would flip to override like the actual controller)

Hello Geert,

if you mean the "syncronize cockpit controls with HOTAS controls on mission start", as MTFDarkEagle said, it syncronises what your HOTAS (Warthog) is set to in the sim. So, on my throttle side, I have a flip switch "APU Start", if "synchonize ..." is ON, and I have my (fysical) switch set to "APU START", the sim will use this setting in-cockpit when I start a mission. If I leave the "synchronize ..." OFF, and that switch is still set to "APU START", it will show up in-cockpit as "OFF", since that is the default for that switch in the sim. Since most other HOTASes (does this sound weird ?) don't have most of those switches, it doesn't work with them.

Kind regards,

Bart

Be careful when naming your keys if you go with the Saitek profile. I doubt that they have fixed an issue with the MFD display. The profile will crash if the name assigned to the key is longer than 15 characters (includes the spaces)

When I was using the X-52 I found the software a bit quirky (but the stick is good) so just watch for that.
