Guys,

 

I noticed during mission building and in missions that when I go to F2 view to other A/C's I cannot hear their engines at all, I do hear their weapons when they launch, anyone have any ideas?

 

EDIT: Now I am noticing cockpit sounds are not working, A/C taxing by not making any sound. I do hear ingame speech, ships, and weapons, but no engine sounds? DCS.log attached, had to zip it, its 22mb long after just 45 seconds of starting a mission.

 

Any help would be greatly appreciated, I really do not want to re-install if I do not have too....

I noticed this behaviour also in a mission with lots of units.

Having around 960 units made the sound go away. Reducing it to about 920 units, and sound was back.

 

What are the limiting factors on groups/units ?

Anywhere we can adjust those "sources" ?

Stuka and I tested one of my new missions and we both reported loss of canopy sounds. I lost engines sounds, he did not. This was with 600+ units and a bunch of AI uncontrolled aircraft with no waypoints though. I'll be switching those aircraft to objects and we'll see how that fairs.

 

Obviously there are some pretty hard limits on how many units you can actually use. If we have no way to destroy (meaning completely remove from the engines memory) groups/units while the mission is actually running and no way of creating no new groups, then we are extremely limited for mission creation, and impossible to leave a dedicated server mission running for any lengthy amount of time depending on how many people are playing it.

Made the uncontrolled aircraft objects and retested. Runs good no fps drops and no sound issues. I can see how the engine crashing due to too many units causes sound problems, but man is that random.

I pared down the unit count from 1,063 to 1,025 to 979 to 895 to 857. How much further do I have to go? Maybe it is the Group count? That will be next.

 

I first noticed the no 'cockpit sounds' with a F-117, then switched to a Predator, in F2 View. That was yesterday as I was putting the finishing touches on the enemy forces, pushing the unit count over 1,000.

yeah, groupcount is sure a part of the "problem".

Also what the groups are doing makes a difference. A T-80 platoon sitting somewhere 'dumb', or them moving across the map, is a different thing.

 

The more intelligence you add to the map, the faster you are going to run into the problem.

 

I really would like to know a way of 'calculating' the limits, so I can keep it in account for designing maps that are meant to run for a longer time.

 

Currently, it's trial and error.

Wow, I'll tell you what - last night I ripped the limbs off of this beast of a mission and I'm still not getting cockpit sounds or F2 View aircraft sounds. Any more ripping and I'll be taking the heart out of it.

 

I've reduced the unit count in steps down to ~800, from ~1,060. Then I started over and ripped out ~20 groups of ten units in steps and still no joy; there were ~141 groups to start. v1.1.1.1 In both cases the unit count is now below 900.

 

 

I'll keep my fingers crossed that the new patch will help - hopefully that will be soon.

I got my mission working.

 

The mission version that did not work is Ants v22i:

192 Triggers

96 Groups

678 Units

 

The mission version that brought back the cockpit / F2 View sounds is Ants v22j:

191 Triggers

93 Groups

546 Units

 

This mission does fail to launch from the Mission Editor after changes and Save.
