JG14_Smil Posted March 29, 2012 Posted March 29, 2012 Yes but more importantly what resolution and settings, e.g. hdr, aa etc. If a sim is not playable with that system, it is not worth playing. All that hardware and only 37 fps! BS2 sheesh...
Darkphox Posted March 30, 2012 Posted March 30, 2012 Hello all, For anyone interested, I've posted a GTX 680 vs HD6990 thread that benchmarks the two on DCS A-10. Terminal Meltdown thought it might hold an interest here, so the link is: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=1427563#post1427563 Thanks, -Phox EVGA X-58 SLI3 w/ I7 920@ 4.2ghz | Corsair 1000HX | 180gb Intel SSD330 | 12gb OCZ @ 1600mhz | R9 290 3120x1200 (1920 + MFCDs on 2x lilliput UM-80s) Bits: TM Warthog, TM OSBs, Saitek rudder pedals, Logitech G-15 & G-13, Mionix Naos 5k, TrackIR5 w/ proclip, Corsair HS1A

Darkphox Posted March 31, 2012 Posted March 31, 2012 That is not what I implied. Did you vote for Obama? Your mentality seems to indicate that. On the other forum, Darkphox, can you follow and add to this thread for comparison: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=1426362#post1426362 Thanks My bench was in A10. You took me to a forum with a BS 2 track, and you asked me to add to the thread. That being the case, I only thought it appropriate to concisely share my results than to change the subject or comment on something I have no experience with. While I do not support Obama, I'm not sure how that plays into the apparent miscommunication here. Toxe Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 I changed my trusty old Geforce GTX 460 for a new (way too big, loud and power hungry...) GTX 580 and redid the test. You can find my old settings here. 1920x1200, Core i7 920 3.2 GHz, Win7 64 Bit, 6 GB RAM, Geforce GTX 580 and TrackIR 4. A: 45 --> 48 B: 40 --> 43 C: 38 --> 42 D: 34 --> 38 (previous FPS --> FPS now) A slight increase. But if I am flying around in a training mission it feels a lot more smooth now. Feels more like the old Black Shark 1 now.
Toxe Posted May 6, 2012 Posted May 6, 2012 I OC'ed my Core i7 920 from the previous post a bit more, from 3.2 GHz to 3.8 GHz. No real surprise here, but I wanted to post it anyways, maybe this will help someone in the future. 1920x1200, Core i7 920 3.8 GHz, Win7 64 Bit, 6 GB RAM, Geforce GTX 580 and TrackIR 4. blackpulpit Posted May 9, 2012 Posted May 9, 2012 Could those who use a Nvidia card please tell me what settings they use in the Nvidia control panel for BS2? Things like AA settings, V-SYNC on/off, threaded opt,cpu count, etc, etc. This would help alot for me to get started tweaking some things, thanks all.

At the moment I am actually using no special Nvidia control panel settings for Black Shark. Although for most games I force Anisotropic Filter to 16, as AF is the one setting that improves visual quality the most. Some safe settings I would suggest: Anisotropic Filter: 16x AA Mode: Overwrite or enhance application settings (try enhance first) AA: pick one, 4x would be a good start AA Transparancy: pick one I suggest looking for an in-depth guide and read what the other settings do, but this is usually a good start. But try fiddling with the ingame settings first. And make screenshots to compare your settings. Regarding V-Sync: IMHO you should enable V-Sync only if you know what it does and, most impotantly, if your FPS are 99% of the time above 60. If not leave it off.

JG14_Smil Posted September 17, 2012 Posted September 17, 2012 (edited) Hello. I wanted to revisit this old thread to test my setup in a standardized test. I find little gems of knowledge along the way and have been able to use these to gain approximately 100% framerates in both DCS W and DCS BS2. Please note I make no claims of these settings being best for everyone, but I cannot be the only one enjoying this. I use to get the same approximate results as everyone else. I make no claims of knowing anything about how it works, I just do it and enjoy. First of all, PeterP is THE MAN. OK. here we go... A. 112 fps B. 99 fps C. 96 fps D. 78 fps. DCS settings (from memory, sorry) HIGH HIGH OFF LOW HIGH ON 3840x1080 3.5 512 every frame 8x NORMAL Max clutter max preload cockit shadows TSSAA mirrors OFF DCS World settings are even higher and give similar results (but cannot run this test). I7-3770k 4.2 G 8 G ram not sure which... Nvidia 680 GTX x2 == MUST BE 304.79 drivers to achieve these numbers mostly app controlled 8x super sample yadyada I run Helios on a second monitor, use TIR5 and TFS3 seat. SotfTh and D3DOverrider just plain rock IMHO. Best of luck to everyone. smil Edited September 17, 2012 by JG14_Smil forgot that little t in SoftTH again!
