On rare occasion, the Russians appear to have been quite pleased with the "random" NATO code names for their aircraft. :

^^True that. Unofficially within their own ranks they often refer to their own stuff using the NATO code. lol

Errr... No? :P

There is a single bird, used in airshows, that is painted black with the shark teeth. Thus: "Black Shark", as well as the bird in the TV-show. ;)

There is a big difference between normaly and ...all.

I did know that they are not all black.

I think this discussion is about the name of the Helicopter and not about the NATO callsign...

In case you missed earlier posts in this thread, my post is in reference to earlier posts re NATO designation system of Russian military assets

From that view it's impossible to see any difference but it should be an alligator,it has the new star of the russian army, while the 50s have the old red star.Anyway i've found pics of the machines numbered 23,24,26 and 27 all painted black,so i assumed they are all black now, but i cannot be sure :music_whistling:

Y'know I always thought the NATO naming scheme was a bit... random. I mean, what the *$%# is a "Hokum"?

Hah, I though Su-17/-20/-22 "Fitter" was a good one.

The report would say something like "Two Russian Fitter on routine mission just off the Norwegian border..."

There used to be, and likely still is, a problem with Russian hookers stealing over the Russian border into Norway to sell their services. Now, if you know what "Fitter" is in Norwegian... :P
