Frostiken Posted February 19, 2012 Posted February 19, 2012 By the way, I went on Newegg and looked at the cost of RAM. 16GB is so cheap it's like 'why not'? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
july865 Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 make it 32g. Asus x99, i7 5930k, 32g mem, MSI 1070GTX, 970 Samsung M.2, LG 35in Ultra-Wide, TrackIR 4 Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Frostiken Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 (edited) make it 32g. Well the problem there is that either you need a motherboard with an absurd number of DIMMs, or you end up buying extremely slow RAM. Edited February 20, 2012 by Frostiken [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
july865 Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 4 dimm slots are generally standard for mobo's. and no issues with the 32g that i use being slow. Asus x99, i7 5930k, 32g mem, MSI 1070GTX, 970 Samsung M.2, LG 35in Ultra-Wide, TrackIR 4 Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Frostiken Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 Still, the best of the best for 4x8Gb sticks with low latencies costs you a pretty penny... not exactly proportional to the price difference between 8 and 16, especially since around there you can be more choosey about what you're getting. I could get 32Gb (I think I have 6 DIMMs) but doubt I will until I spend an absurd amount on my next PC :D [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
nowakpl Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 You can never have too much ram ;) I have 16GB and most of it is used as disk cache. In Team Fortress 2 I'm always first to load after a map change - even before people that claim having SSD disks.
Guest masterwon Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 Im sure you guys know this but I will just mention that if you switch your pc to "high performance mode" there is quite a big differance. All of my lag stopped straight away and the pc flies along. The screens come back different ( none sim mode) so not as pretty as before. I run 4 ram of my laptop
genbrien Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 Is 8gb enough for a RAM drive ?
