Looks like we will have to use a new spot for sharing missions and files.

It makes me appreciate teh DCS user file download feature much more. I'll be porting my missions over to it today.

Not sure I agree that the owners of MEGAUPLOAD are pirates. The site certainly provided a legal, easy service to me...

Im surprised they have shutdown tha thing (the accusation cannot be directly linked to the owners), but this is a trend seen world wide. As crysis gets worse liberties get lost, often by the hands of powerfull lobies over the majority.

Well, this doesn't sound like the act of a completely innocent man!

The police told TVNZ Dotcom retreated into his mansion, activating electronic locking mechanisms as he went. He finally barricaded himself in a safe room, and the police had to cut their way into it

And if he didn't barricade himself it would mean he is innocent? Not much of a point in doing it anyway, as they had enough time to cut through to him ...

They did not arrest the CEO though.

The personnel they targeted seems like a very specific list. I'm gonna wait and see if the people who have been arrested were actually uploading pirated materials themselves. If they were, then the case may have some merit since they were charging customers for premium accounts, even though within their own business, in order to distribute copyrighted material themselves. That may not have been their goal, but if they were engaging in that, then this will most likely be a civil and not a criminal case.

Except that the police Armed Offenders Squad (equivalent of a SWAT team) got themselves rope dropped from hellicopters (deciding not to use the helipad onsite by the house) in black uniforms, with black ski-masks to storm the building (I think they wanted to impress the FBI agents over here to supervise the arrest)

I'd have run and hid too - what's a safe room for if not un-invited armed men smashing in your door ?

Police also said he had a shortened shotgun in the safe room with him (Shortened shotguns, handguns, assault rifles and automatic weapons all being illegal here unless you're a 'collector' - though the hunting rifle ownership rate is very high)

- implying that he was dangerous & that's why they did the dramatic raid - but if I was worth what he's supposedly worth, I think that's what I'd keep in my saferoom too.

Don't get me wrong, from what I've seen of him the guy's a dick, and probably complying with the letter of the law to the minimum extent he thinks he can get away with, but the whole raid was a jolly for the AOS, a bonding excersise for the NZPF & the FBI, a demonstration to the US Govt that the NZ Govt is 'with them' to the US Govt - in an 'if'n you're not with us you're a'gin us' sort of way, and NZ was a nice co-opperative place to have a worldwide demonstration that wherever you are in the world, the US Govt will persue those evil, dangerous, civilisation-destroying, profit-erroding, anti-artist file-sharers on behalf of civilisation everywhere (or at least that part of civilisation represented by the media giants that see their profits erroding & are prepared to cripple the internet to protect them...)
