ok, meh 3rd 78 arrived this morning, now i put it into my other slow pc, amd 64 2800+ 1 gb ram etc etc, i took the 68gt out and tried lockon, albeit, it was only 1.02 thats installed as bgp made meh uninstall 1.1 when testing something. now i did some tests and on that pc i get 0 fps increase with a 78 instead of a 68gt. is this game crazy or what ? :icon_evil :icon_frow

its maybe more todo with the pc rather than the vid card, but dammmmm.

Money wasted.

You've had a fantastic card (GF6800GT). I wish I could have one of those. And you upgrade from 6800 to 7800 because you find 6800 performance not enough?

I'm still on GF4Ti4200 and playing LockOn 1.1 !

The GF4Ti 4200 is a great video card and it can handle Lock On with no problems.

Played many games on it and it never failed.

ok, the 7800 was bought cuz i was able to get uber good price for it, i didnt buy it solely for lockon as that would be a waste, this is my year of upgrades, i wont be buying anything for the next 12+ months, except a faster cpu to replace that 2800.

the £/$ exchange would make it not worth your while buying from the US, and it does eat up a 6600gt. well it did with my old 6600gt 128mb.

but if you still wanna buy at UK prices then be my guest.

and yes i do know that the pc that its in isnt capable of using all the 68gts power, so its certainly not gonna do it with the 78, but i am in the market for a new cpu aswell.

As far As I know (had an NVidia GF4200 TI myself) the card only suports DX 8.1, not 9.0. So how can you play Lock-On nad be satisfied ? Some of the goodies based upon DX9 are not available at your system...

I'm still on a GeForce4 Ti 4200 lol. With only a crappy Pentium 4 2.4ghz with 512 mb of ram and i play mostly on all low settings. Yes the pain is great but can't get my gaming computer until a couple months later after all the school crap. But i still love this game.

7800 and lockon

Returning to topic "7800 and lockon!"

At present a single 7800 be the best, for play LOMAC in high resolutions and high details.

Who wants playing Lock On ever on low level details and resolutions? :D

See this Benchmarks: http://firingsquad.com/hardware/nvidia_geforce_7800_gtx/page16.asp

I used to play LOMAC on a T-bird 1200 (actualy I had 2, the 1st blew up) and a G4 TI-4200. That was a decent card but unable to handle heat blur and any AA at all. I used to have unstable perfomance but somewhere between 15-25 FPS, and med settings, bad stutering though.

I have the rig (specs on sig) and I realy can fly now, although not to the highest detail but as you can see my GFX settings are decent with 15-20FPS over major cities, 20-35 FPS on runways and 45-60 FPS in the air. AA is off, AF is usable at 4X with no drop, but I chose to have it off and cranked up mip map and texture detail to max to give me crystal clear textures even at far distances.

On a side note, I play mostly online, wich forces me to set scenes on high to help prevent crashes on loading in some of the major servers out there.

Heat blur is off because when there are many aircraft on runways sometimes I get freezes when I look in certain directions.

ive never had a nvidia ti card, but i do know that out of the majority of lower end nvidia cards, that the ti versions were probably the best, and its weird that the gf3 pwns the newer gf4 ? a big step backward there from nvidia but thankfully that didnt apply to the ti 4*** series of card, i did have the chance to own one a few years back from a buddy who bought a 9600, but i declined and got robbed by buying the 5900ultra :(

I went from a BFG 6800 GT to a 7800 GT and there was a very noticeable performance difference. I can run 4X AA and AF with out major slow down, which is great because before I could only use 2XAA and get good performance. A 6800 GT runs extremely hot where as a 7800 is much cooler. There are major advancements in how they produced the 7800 line of cards. It was worth the money to me.

I sold the 6800GT on ebay for $170...
