sturm21 Posted March 11, 2012 Posted March 11, 2012 I know this should be easy but when I have the general target area successfully selected as the sensor point of interest I am unable to fine tune the Maverick using the slew controls. More specifically, as soon as I start slewing the Maverick the camera immediately starts moving as fast as my A-10. This is happening during the Maverick training mission where your waypoint is the airstrip and you make the waypoint your SPI. That goes fine but then when starting to slew to the target it just releases the camera lock and I have to select the SPI again and this cycle keeps repeating. :helpsmilie: General comment to the developers and testers - Thanks for this GREAT simulation. I have spent the last couple months reading the manuals (still not done as I forget it as fast as I read it) and it is SO overwhelming at first that I almost gave up several times. But now that I have some of the very basics down such as my X52 Hotas controls, TMS, DMS, Coolie and other crazy functions on the MFCD I feel like I accomplished something with every flight. For example, I was flying too low when I dropped a bomb and the explosion ripped through parts of my a10 and started a fire. I quickly pulled the correct lever and applied the fire extinguisher. So proud of myself, until I realized I actually pushed the jettison button and the resulting explosion blew my wings off. I laughed so hard when one of my friends said Mass Effect has a steep learning curve!
PeterP Posted March 11, 2012 Posted March 11, 2012 (edited) Just set down the slew rate to something about 0.2... I laughed so hard when one of my friends said Mass Effect has a steep learning curve! I'm still laughing Hard out loud! Edited March 11, 2012 by PeterP 1

ilikepie Posted March 11, 2012 Posted March 11, 2012 if mav is soi then hit osb 6 iirc to switch adj on then ground stabilize and you can slew the seeker head and it will remain at that fixed point. resetting the slew rate will make it easier to move but it does need to be stabilized. ralfidude Posted March 11, 2012 Posted March 11, 2012 About the slew, I think he means that he does not understand that mavericks do not have ground stabilization ( I think?) Basically, if you played Flaming Cliffs 2, and moved the maverick around, it is not the same in the DCS A10. The infored mavericks can be slewed but not in respect to the ground, like point at the ground, move it a bit, let go, and it stays stuck to the ground. Now, you CAN use the day mavericks in that way you want them to (like ground stabilizer), this is called force correlate. However, this requires you to rock the boat switch, so it becomes quite a bit of work if you are targeting a few things at once. Read up on it from the manual or a youtube video which I know exists out there using force correlate and get things written down. sturm21 Posted March 11, 2012 Author Posted March 11, 2012 Thanks for the comments! I'll try them first chance I get. Since I am new to the terminology I know it might not be clear what my problem is. To say it another way - In the training mission, I can get the Maverick locked to the airfield waypoint shown on the TAD but I cant scan the airfield for the tanks or whatever the enemy vehicles I should be targeting with the Maverick because as soon as I start slewing, the Maverick camera breaks lock and moves at the same speed as the aircraft. Don't know how everybody gets it to lock onto a tank.
BlueRidgeDx Posted March 11, 2012 Posted March 11, 2012 (edited) You have two options: TMS AFT SHORT will command the Maverick to Ground Stabilize, which causes it to behave just like when it's slaved to SPI - it will stay centered on a point on the ground. TMS LEFT SHORT* will command the Maverick to Space Stabilize, which will cause it to maintain a fixed azimuth and elevation with respect to the horizon. These two methods will help alleviate the behavior that you're seeing. The fact that the seeker has no stabilization while slewing is an error in the maverick implementation within DCS. It's a known issue. You can help reduce the motion of the seeker if you avoid maneuvering while slewing. The apparent motion gets worse as slant range decreases, and angle-off increases, i.e. the greater the LOS rate, the more difficult slewing becomes. Try maximizing slant range, fly directly at the target, and fly wings-level. *It should really only stay space stabilized as long as TMS LEFT is held. At present, it works like a toggle. Known issue. Speed Posted March 11, 2012 Posted March 11, 2012 Funny indeed. Will have to ask EtherealN about that!!:megalol: EDIT: ....and what Peter said about slew. Yea, I just got Mass Effect 3... I had to use a laser level to detect a slope in the learning curve. Intelligent discourse can only begin with the honest admission of your own fallibility. Wichid Posted March 11, 2012 Posted March 11, 2012 I find putting the target directly in front of me makes the maverick nice and easy to control. So when I'm running in I line it all up and even dive a little. 1 Lyndiman AMD Ryzen 3600 / RTX 2070 Super / 32G Ram / Win10 / TrackIR 5 Pro / Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS & MFG Crosswind Rudder Pedals
Mosley Posted March 11, 2012 Posted March 11, 2012 I would compare using the mav slew button to flying the plane while.looking 90 degrees out the window and flying. With that being said do what you would do while flying. Autopilot. The path setting works well for this. Use your tvv and put it close to your target. This will reduce the movement considerably. Right on is better. Just don't descend to low while doing this. Also as mentioned range plays a factor. The closer you are the easier it gets off. 1 i7 2600k @ 4.4 / GTX 470 1.3gb / 8GB DDR3 1600 / TM Warthog #7440 / Toshiba 37" 1080p / OCZ Vertex3 SSD 128GB / Win7-64 / TIR4
Longjap Posted March 11, 2012 Posted March 11, 2012 Just set down the slew rate to something about 0.2... I'm still laughing Hard out loud! Shouldn't he be using a higher slew rate? It inverted a while ago right? Where a higher rate makes for a slower slew rate.
