macedk Posted May 8, 2012 Posted May 8, 2012 Where to start...well somewhere I guess :) Q: does the p-51 have merit ? (I mean in the dcs world) A: Yes ..why? it will teach a hell allot about flying period :) I came from F4 to Il2 and long story short... For me i had to fly...not just fight 20 miles out with perfect picture. I learned that in the old days you had the be a good flyer to be a good fighter. Had some better sqd mates and learned allot that I have carried with me to this day . Q: tie in with the rest of Dcs (A-10, Ka-50) A: not really but if you have flown something like the P-51, then crosswind and rudder control will be 2nd nature. Some pilots out there are very good weapons operators but they know Shit about actual flying. Q: but is it the true flight model... A:well my only sticktime i have is a Cessna when i was 12 years old. No idea but bare in mind that ED has their own P-51 to look at. (i've read something on the internet so it must be.....Horsefood..mates, you have no clue..Refraise and ask the prober way ;) Back to the simulator :) Q: the new patch A: more forgiving and easier to control..."read landing and take-off" (Did I just get better or did they tweak ...Not for me answer :) (Its all me muhaha) My thoughts: adversary plane needed to justify the p-51. Keep grinding on this ww2 subject...people can't stay away from it. Talk to il2 guys cause they are in need of some good feedback and They had the right plan wrong publisher. Get them in house and start building the lead sim world. Its up for grasp...pt you guys have no rivals..biggest mistake Microsoft ever made closing down flightsim. Not really a rival but now aot of flightsim guys are looking for something else to fly :) Just saw a ice hockey game..push while the other side is goin "what??" Should there be only one ....no not in my book but to be true ..I'll fly the best not matter the name. End: You guys are on the right path, keep it up...many of the big companies started small and against the market. I bought P-51 cause it was such a lousy plane in il-2 and because A-10 and BS was very good. Lock-on was otter ..not good in my book ..was a Falcon flier at the time and didn't want to deal with no click-able pit. Can I Say OVER-G ...ARGH. But in my book they came back with Blackshark and blew me away :) Rant ended :) Peace Macedk OS: Win10 home 64bit*MB: Asus Strix Z270F/ CPU: Intel I7 7700k /Ram:32gb_ddr4 GFX: Nvidia Asus 1080 8Gb Mon: Asus vg2448qe 24" Disk: SSD Stick: TM Warthog #1400/Saitek pro pedals/TIR5/TM MFDs [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
leafer Posted May 8, 2012 Posted May 8, 2012 I hope they take this to the finish line. Release a few more german, russian and japanese planes and a 1940 theater to get some historical ball rolling, and we have a classic in the making. ED have been taking my money since 1995. :P
Teapot Posted May 8, 2012 Posted May 8, 2012 Oh yeah Macedk and Leafer. I agree totally! Build it and (my gut feeling is) they will come ;o) ... and Leafer ole buddy ole pal, we can be squaddies again just like in the ye-olde days of AH with Jekyll. MadTommy Posted May 8, 2012 Posted May 8, 2012 There are a lot of disgruntled Cliffs of Dover flyers out there, me included, i'd snap my CloD disk if i had one! It would be great to get the IL2 community modding and building a WWII environment and planes... all potentially possible with the intent of ED giving us a thorough SDK...I don't think ED have the resources or intent to do it themselves.. i5-3570K @ 4.5 Ghz, Asus P8Z77-V, 8 GB DDR3, 1.5GB GTX 480 (EVGA, superclocked), SSD, 2 x 1680x1050, x-fi extreme music. leafer Posted May 8, 2012 Posted May 8, 2012 Hey, Teapot! You were here not too long ago for a few days then disappeared. What ya up to these days? Sure thing about the squad. You know we'd have these head-down, fbw types around here for snacks. :D ED have been taking my money since 1995. :P
Teapot Posted May 8, 2012 Posted May 8, 2012 Leafer mate, I'm living the dream working as a salary slave ;o) ... but can't complain (and no one listens anyways!). Between work and test flying the Mustang (I'm over the moon with the latter), I only make the forums intermittently at the moment. MadTommy, you're right on the money about CLOD (appropriate name btw) and I hope the rest of what you say happens too. mmaruda Posted May 8, 2012 Posted May 8, 2012 DCS World seems to have tremendous potential to become a platform for various aircraft and theatres. If it's easy to put stuff into the game now (I have read that you can make any aircraft flyable using the Su-25T cockpit), then if we don't get a WWII setting and (I hope) 1950's this will be a huge shame. As to the P-51 itself, people need to start thinking creative. A properly designed campaign could make this fit in quite well. So what if it ain't realistic? Just make up some mercenary air force flying Mustangs, add some heavier guns as payloads (there was a mod with uber-gunpods for the Ka-50), some after-market RWR device and a flare pod and we're good to go tank busting. I'm still sceptical about the Mustang, maybe because I don't think it was such a good plane after all. I prefer info from books rather than the Discovery Channel propaganda, but it's definitely a pretty machine and looking at the screens, ED has done a great job modelling it. If we get some more stuff to do in the P-51, I'd be happy to buy it.

If you don't buy it you won't get to fly it ... and discover one of the truly great joys in life (on par with wine, women and song). I can spend over an hour just doing circuits in the thing, it's so satisfying. The DCS Mustang, she is alive and responsive, a bit twitchy on the take-off roll transitioning to when the tail lifts, but with the lightest nudge of right aileron, she tracks straight and true ... lifting off into the great blue ... and I'm a focking poet but didn't knowit ... but seriously, it's almost impossible not to wax lyrical about this new development that is DCS World with the Mustang. Thank you ED, thank you, thank you, thank you. "A true 'sandbox flight sim' requires hi-fidelity flyable non-combat utility/support aircraft."
