Why are all the mp server password protected?

I tried several times to fly online but all four or five servers are that way. Are they squad servers?

most of them will be, or setup with several participants wanting to concentrate etc.

 

i got a bit fluffy last night when server just shuts down without announcement (tuskegee airmen server) and then its passworded. no other server offering public play so yer Phoofed !

 

best host one yourself upon creating a mission for your server. unfortunatly nobody is obliged to public host.

Yep, that is my only gripe about DCS / LockOn and not very many guys to play with or fight against.

 

The word, "furball" is probably unknown here. LOL! :lol:

 

Otherwise, the planes, the sims, the helpful community spirit is aces.

I would host it but not sure if it's feasible because I'm on a shared ADSL 256 line. Now I understand why people want ED's dedicated server.

I always put up our server " NO PASSWORD " only unless a practice is being done...:thumbup:

compared to other sims I do find more online servers here passworded. Of cause some have squard nights and that`s ok (training and mission test). Other than that I cant se a reson to close a server.

 

Panzers server have been the only one I have been able to fly on and had a greeeeeaaaat time thx Panzer (great people and all).

 

So! Open up u r servs for the sake of the community :)))))

Well I've tried leaving our " Virtual tuskegee Airmen " server up all night the other day and no one was around I will do the same tonight..consider it up w/o password

I used to host an open server all the time but lately I have found that there are tons of "kids" that will come on, take off, buzz the airbase and then when they get bored will just launch a AIM-9 right at you and then just quit. Plus with the missions I have written you almost always need to be on teamspeak to coordinate attacks, etc.... so I will always password my server with the phrase "password on TS" and then put the TS addy/info in the server name or in the description. So yea if you dont do a little "leg-work" you wont be able to join the server, but I have no problem giving out the password, so long as you are on TS. Plus most of those "team-killers" wont bother to go onto TS to get the password. So it works out much better for everyone on the server. Plus having fellow pilots on TS, talking and interacting and conversing is much better for the community then just a bunch of lone wolf running around server hopping.

I was trying to host a server for 6 last night. However it wouldn't show up in the master list no mater what I tried. I had the firewall off on my router and my pc. Had to play with a friend over hamachi to get any connection.

I was going to post this request just now! I have been beaten to it. So another voice to say PLEEEASSE dont password your server unless you need to. Obviously, its your toy box so do what you want, but bare in mind that only a small percentage of the population will behave "bad". And you might meet some other good pilots as well.

 

Like the Batumi Air Racing server that has been on occasionally. I would love to go on that! But passworded. Cant you just put in the set up that noone carrys bullets / bombs? That should get rid of the kids that just want to straff the apron. Or cold starts only...

 

If anyone is misbehaving or just bringing the quality down then they should get kicked. (Or asked to leave politely)

Running the servman mod should help with those killing friendlies. It will do an auto kick. I set it to kick after 2 friendly kills to account for accidents. I also set the time to allow back on to 10 minutes instead of the usual 15.
