winz Posted June 18, 2012 Posted June 18, 2012 How about a map 458 times larger than the earth's surface? http://www.overclock3d.net/news/software/the_true_power_of_cryengine_2/1 Only problem would be the draw distance but that's one of the things that could easily be changed with said TLC. The article is only stating, that it can handle - read it will not CTD misserably trying to do so. But there is not a word about how effectively can the engine handle such big map. AFAIK the cryengine uses precompiled AI paths in navigation, so that might be one hiccup. The Valley A-10C Version Revanche for FC 3
Sethos Posted June 19, 2012 Posted June 19, 2012 (edited) I have never seen people ready so much into stuff you didn't even say and people like Gisen spew so much bullshit, holy hell :| Give me a call when you armchair developers get to work with the CryEngine, then we can discuss this further :) Edited June 19, 2012 by Sethos

Australia alone has something around 7,700,000sqkm how do they come up with whole planet having 150,000,000sqkm? Earth has way more surface area than that Edit: ah, they are talking land surface only Edited June 19, 2012 by Kuky PC specs: Windows 11 Home | Asus TUF Gaming B850-Plus WiFi | AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D + LC 360 AIO | MSI RTX 5090 LC 360 AIO | 55" Samsung Odyssey Gen 2 | 64GB PC5-48000 DDR5 | 1TB M2 SSD for OS | 2TB M2 SSD for DCS | NZXT C1000 Gold ATX 3.1 1000W | TM Cougar Throttle, Floor Mounted MongoosT-50 Grip on TM Cougar board, MFG Crosswind, Track IR
PeterP Posted June 19, 2012 Posted June 19, 2012 (edited) Because they over-clocked their machines so much that the calculator doesn't work properly any-more.... :D So maybe useless to tell them that this is wrong , because they will instantly show you that their pc is spitting out this product - so they have to be right (...) - none less what others may say. BTW: Earth surface area is ~506.929.249 km² Earth radius ~ 6353km surface area = 4pr² = 4 × 3.14 × 6353² = 506929249,04 Edit: Edit: ah, they are talking land surface only Yeah - this could make sense ... But: They don't make it anywhere clear in this article - so they are still very wrong !! :D - never mix apples with oranges! http://www.overclock3d.net/news/software/the_true_power_of_cryengine_2/1: And you know what? Earth's entire surface "barely" reaches 150,000,000 square kilometers, so with Crytek's SandBox editor one can theoretically create a map approximately 458 times bigger than the area of Earth...
