Laud Posted July 29, 2012 Posted July 29, 2012 Maybe try to avoid using the CCC. Back in the past (with A-10C in beta) I had massive problems with the CCC. Ones I switched to Ati Tray Tools everything was fine. By the way overclocked the 6970 GPU upto 988MHz and the graphics memory up to 5800 but only managed to get about anther 3-4 fps extra, have fiddles with all graphics setting and even with everything lo only get about 30fps.

I have a pretty good system, so wondering what it is burning up my GPU so much, I cant seem to pinpoint iT. I am wondering if it is an ATI vs nVidia issue, or if it might be related to the ATI 6970 specifically. Anyone got any feedback on this?
ATAG_chair1 Posted July 29, 2012 Posted July 29, 2012 engine shut down I have been flying the P-51 for about 3 weeks. In the last three days it has developed a engine shut down in every mission. I have checked fuel pressure, temp, and over rev. nothing helps. I had a track of one mission but your program says in an invalid file.
Laud Posted July 29, 2012 Posted July 29, 2012 I got a non oc-ed 6950 and everything is running fine with quite high settings. No idea, what may cause the issues... :/ [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Asus ROG STRIX Z390-F Gaming, Intel Core i7 9700k , 32gb Corsair DDR4-3200 Asus RTX 2070 super, Samsung 970 EVO Plus M2, Win10 64bit, Acer XZ321QU (WQHD) TM HOTAS Warthog, SAITEK Rudder Pedals, TIR 5

Mustang Posted July 29, 2012 Posted July 29, 2012 The 6970 only has one GPU, its the reason I bought it for the DCS titles Ah my bad, my understanding was that all 69xx cards were multi GPU configurations, seems like only the 6990 is.
Laud Posted July 29, 2012 Posted July 29, 2012 Exactly Mustang! With the 6-Series they shifted numbers up by 20. Congo_Toey Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 I think as my cpu is not loaded very much and gpu is at max load, and changing graphics settings doesnt seem to change things too much, I would like to try and understand what work is done by the cpu and what is dont my the gpu? anyone know?
Laud Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 Hardware and resolution see signature! Settings High (except water medium), V-Sync On, TSSAA on, 8xAA, Heat Blur on, no mirrors, cockpit shadows on. FPS 20-40 (Max FPS set to 40!). Good enough for me to fly and fight. :) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Asus ROG STRIX Z390-F Gaming, Intel Core i7 9700k , 32gb Corsair DDR4-3200 Asus RTX 2070 super, Samsung 970 EVO Plus M2, Win10 64bit, Acer XZ321QU (WQHD) TM HOTAS Warthog, SAITEK Rudder Pedals, TIR 5

Good enough for me to fly and fight. :) tried no mirror and no real difference. but just noticed your setup is a little less demanding than mine. So I think that although yours is playable it is still not good for the system you have. Your system is rendering 3200x1080 = 3,456,000 pixels My system is rendering 6048x1200 = 7,257,600 pixels your GPU is pretty much the same as mine, but rendering less and so your FPS is higher, so I think that you get double the frame rate as you have about half the pixels. But both of our GPU's should really have no issues, as they are not that old. So still on the track for what is making so many demands on the GPU. Is there anyone with a similar rendering resolution with nVidia GPU that could tell me what their performance is like?
Congo_Toey Posted August 8, 2012 Posted August 8, 2012 As an update. I think it is sim related as opposed to gfx card or drivers. As today I just upgraded my gfx card to an ASUS GTX 680 direct CU TOP which on reviews was getting about double the performance of the 6970 and it is exactly what i found in the sim. This is probably the best gfx single GPU graphics card you can get, and on the same setting as the previous card I am getting about double the fps, at around 38 fps average. Biggest difference with the nvidia is that fps does seem to drop in and around built up areas.
Laud Posted August 8, 2012 Posted August 8, 2012 Biggest difference with the nvidia is that fps does seem to drop in and around built up areas. Guess why! But due to the reason, all GFX-Cards will do. Congo_Toey Posted August 9, 2012 Posted August 9, 2012 Guess why! But due to the reason, all GFX-Cards will do. But with the ATI 6970 card it is not noticable, with the gtx 680 it drop to from 40 fps to about 20fps, quite a big drop
Laud Posted August 9, 2012 Posted August 9, 2012 With my 6950 I can watch them go up and down by changing the direction I look at (of course depending on the 3D objects-density/complexity at the different bearings). DCS seems to work quite different on different systems, not only depending on hardware configuration. diveplane Posted August 19, 2012 Posted August 19, 2012 a massive heavy frame hitter is the external lighting aircraft lights and farps. brings my pc to its knees. really needs addressed. https://www.youtube.com/user/diveplane11 DCS Audio Modding.
Echo38 Posted August 24, 2012 Posted August 24, 2012 For me, the only thing that unreasonably brings down FPS is the P-51's tracers. It fires its guns, and my FPS drops from ~15 to ~3. Flying through clouds doesn't do that, nor does anything else.
aaron886 Posted August 24, 2012 Posted August 24, 2012 I know all the shaders were re-written in HLSL for DCS (rather than the old VSH/PSH files) but I still think some of them might be pretty inefficient. (And/or just a really old method that needs to be re-examined, like most of the smoke effects.) It is strange how the engine seems to work fine on some systems but struggle on others, as if the bottleneck is just very hard to track down. We all know flight simulators are doing lots of calculations and are difficult to optimize. Personally I'm starting to think I get an unreasonable FPS drop with multiple aircraft in close vicinity that have their burners lit. (Formation loop with burner.) Almost 10 FPS lost, perhaps due to light being cast on other aircraft? Hard to say.
Tango Posted August 24, 2012 Posted August 24, 2012 On my old system smoke used to kill FPS, but on my current system smoke doesn't have any negative effect. Water makes a big difference here. If I set it to medium or low, then I hardly ever suffer FPS issues. I agree that the direction you look has a big effect. Towards mountains is worse for me than the ocean. I have draw distance set to 15 km. Best regards, Tango.
