GripenNG Posted July 4, 2012 Posted July 4, 2012 No, I think the ground based JTAC also use a laser if enemy is in line of sight. But the enemy needs to be IN SIGHT! Make a JTAC Invisible and Immortal and place it realy close to the target and try again. ;) Yeah the JTAC (on the ground) use a laser. But my knowledge is really bad on this area - cause I don´t know if airborne assets can give you 9-line briefings and lase? The MQ-1A is said to lase for you, but how? Do I have to contact it like a JTAC for a 9-line briefing, or could I just use LSS whitout any radio speech? As you see I´m quite confused :helpsmilie: [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Snooze-81st-vFS
Eddie Posted July 4, 2012 Posted July 4, 2012 Yes you need to call the JTAC or AFAC on the radio, check in and receive a 9-line brief. If you don't talk to anyone, how will they know you are ready for them to fire the LASER? Furthermore an AI JTAC/AFAC will only provide LASER designation when they task you to employ an LGB. You can ensure this occurs by either only loading LGBs as another member said, or by setting the relevant options in the mission editor to instruct the JTAC/AFAC to request LGB for a specific target.

I don't know if AFAC will buddy lase the target or simply give coordinates? Eddie Posted July 4, 2012 Posted July 4, 2012 Needs to be VHF AM for a drone or Aircraft No, it does not. Any radio can be used for any unit type. Although in the interests of realism it's best to use on VHF/AM or UHF/AM for dealing with other agencies and keep VHF/FM for flight comms, but realism considerations aside it doesn't matter at all..

Eddie Posted July 4, 2012 Posted July 4, 2012 AI JTAC & AFAC work exactly the same way in DCS, so an AFAC is just a JTAC in an aircraft rather than a ground unit.
RIFLE_JTAC_TRAINING Posted July 5, 2012 Posted July 5, 2012 Lets be clear. AFAC or FAC-A, is a pilot qualified FAC to be able to accomplish what a JTAC/FAC does while he is boots on the ground. Something a lot of people neglect out of this role in MP is aircraft/airspace deconfliction. AbFAC (airborne fac) is a qualified jtac/FAC who is getting a ride in an aircraft. Usually in a chopper and provides the same support he would conduct if he was boots on the ground. best known for AFAC/Fac-a SCHOOL houses are the marines in my opinion. They do it right. Pilot becomes a FAC. Actually performs FAC duties on the ground and overseas then goes back to his airplane sometimes years later. So now you get a pilot who can direct fires and understands the ground force scheme of maneuvre. 63 My CAS (Close air support) JTAC Channel: RIFLE - YouTube RIFLE's Discord: https://discord.gg/cmDCrr4Z2g Publications JTAC Bible (see/know chapter #5) https://fas.org/irp/doddir/dod/jp3_09_3.pdf J-FIRE pocket guide (Don't do battle without it!)
