Would an i7 2600 @ 3.4 gHz be good enough for DCS World?

EDIT: Now that I am thinking about it, before I forget it, is a HD 6770 good as well, or should I do better?

Thank you

Yes a i7 2600 is good, better if you can get a 2600k and over clock it. I have a 2500k and haven't over clocked it yet. I'd get a better video card then the 6770. But, you can always try the 6770 out and see if the FPS are good for you.

Oh, forgot to mention I do actually have both of those, but that is interesting to hear that the 6770 is not the best for DCS A-10. I max at 40 FPS, and I do get occasional stutters at the beginning of the mission, bringing me down to 15 FPS sometimes. I wanted to get an overclockable, 2600K, but one wasn't available when I purchased. Cali, how does your rig perform in World?

Also, does it matter how many cores the CPU has?

DCS does not take full advantage of multiple cores, so no not really. Unless you're doing rendering, encoding etc. an i5 is about equal to an i7 processor in terms of performance (only real difference is the lack of Hyper Threading on the i5s which doesn't really matter much for gaming anyway) - hence why the i5-2500K has been considered the best gaming CPU for a while now. That doesn't mean a i7-2600/2700K isn't better or on par, but you're paying for features games (and certainly not DCS) take advantage of. The Ivy Bridge lineup is roughly on par with the Sandy Bridge equivalent but uses less power with its 22nm die chip.

Go for a high-end GPU and a Sandy or Ivy "K" -model i5 (or i7) CPU, and you should be more than fine for gaming and DCS!

I haven't installed DCSW yet, just d/l'ed the new one. I hope to install it Friday along with DCS-BS2 and see how it preforms. The only problem I'm going to have is setting up my HOTAS again, the first time was a pain in the butt. My cursor is still not working 100% in FC2, gotta go back and see what's up with it. However, my system runs Arma II, FC2 and BMS excellent! I get 50-60 FPS in BMS and FC2 with basically all settings maxed. Not sure what FPS I get in Arma, cause I don't know what button to display it and I don't have fraps installed. I really don't care either cause it runs silky smooth!

Hmm.. Ok, seems like a processor upgrade would void my warranty, so I'll go with a GPU upgrade, probably make it a GTX 570, ( I'm tired of AMD's overhyped graphics cards ). Anybody knows how that works with DCS? I am capable of getting better, I just want to know if 40+ fps is available in World with a GTX 570, 12 gb RAM @1333mhz, and i7 2600 @ 3.4 ghz. Also, should I go for the "HD" version of the card, or just the "plain" card @ 1280 mb of memory?

To be honest, I would just go for the i5 2500k, it's practically the same for much cheaper, the only advantage the i7 has is hyperthreading which is only useful for video editing and would not improve DCS performance.

I made a backup copy of my \Saved Games\DCS folder before uninstalling the old version. Then I simply copied back the \config folder within my backup after reinstalling 1.2.0.

I know someone mentioned keys had changed, but so far it's worked for me and the mappings I had. Worth a shot instead of re-mapping everything from scratch.

Probably not, you would need much more power in order to get what you are looking for, something like a GTX 680, and your proc would have to be OCed well above 4.0 GHz. At least if you are looking for max graphics. Also, while OCing a processor will technically void its warranty, there is no way for Intel to figure out if you had OCed your proc or not, so as long as you don't say that it was operating out of limits, they won't have any evidence otherwise. In addition, you shouldn't have to worry too much about any overclocks. They can be done very safely in most cases, and there is little risk of something going wrong if you follow expert advice and avoid large jumps in clock or voltage (especially voltage. Large jumps in clock could make your system unable to boot, but large voltage increases are liable to fry one or more components in your box. Take the BIOS warnings seriously, and make small incremental changes to your settings.).

If you aim for the sky, you will never hit the ground.

My old computer crashed and I couldn't get everything off of it I wanted. I'm glad I was able to get some stuff. Thx, that info will be useful in the future.

Pyroflash, what is your FPS in world?

It appears that DCSW has given me a significant boost over previous iterations. I now get 60-90 FPS in any given mission. You should be fine with the stock proc, ignore everything I said (This is what I get for not trying out new builds before giving recommendations).

Hi Jazjar. My system (shown below) is i7-2600 and nVidia GTX560. I see 40+ FPS in BS2 with high details.
