Hornet85 Posted July 12, 2012 Posted July 12, 2012 I understand that multiplayer offers a better gaming experience. Lets just assume I'm a weirdo who doesn't play multiplayer :P I really don't like committing myself to a multiplayer session in any game. So what kind of experience can I get out of playing CA single player only? Is there any AI to help make a game feel like say, I'm playing against a responsive opponent? Or are they just dummies sitting around waiting to get shot at? Thanks ;)
Mirtma Posted July 12, 2012 Posted July 12, 2012 I've tried two SP missions. And it kept me around 2 hours each. With second mission I was beaten up by AI. They had higher ground, but less force (as I thought at beginning). I should planned my moves more carefully. ;) Gigabyte Z490 Gaming X | i5 10600K@4700 | 32 Gb DDR4 @ 3200Mhz | Gigabyte Aorus GeForce GTX 1080 Ti 11G | MONITOR IIYAMA 24,5" LED LCD @ 1920 x 1080 | Windows 11 | Saitek X-55 Rhino | TrackIR 5 Pro
Weltensegler Posted July 12, 2012 Posted July 12, 2012 Well you can't JTAC for AI (yet) as I had to find out. And the most fun I think is still having to deal with human Air defense and getting help from human JTACs with TS communication. SP wise it seems you can jump from tank into plane but that sounds more stressful than fun to me :) 4790K@4,6Ghz | EVGA Z97 Classified | 32GB @ 2400Mhz | Titan X hydro copper| SSD 850 PRO ____________________________________ Moments in DCS: --> https://www.youtube.com/user/weltensegLA --> WELD's cockpit: --> http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=92274
Yskonyn Posted July 12, 2012 Posted July 12, 2012 With the 'Pilot can direct ground forces' option enabled, I can see some very cool concepts for SP missions where an A-10C or KA-50 pilot is also able to control the ground forces of his side in the mission. Ground forces vs Ground forces is a bit too rough around the edges for my liking still, though. HotFish Posted July 12, 2012 Posted July 12, 2012 This is a tempting scenario in SP, which hopefully will be implemented in the future: Take off in a Hog cockpit. Once you have created a picture of battlefield events, turn on autopilot and jump in a ground vechicle to designate your targets. Then back into the a10c seat, and do a strike with your wingmen. First take airdef out, then weaken the opposite armour. Now it´s time to go again back to the ground units and finish the work as a leader of group of tanks. Unfortunately (in this beta) when leaving the a10c cockpit, AI takes the control of aircraft. Pilot is able to move troops only on the F10 map, which is quite something though... Anyhow this feature, possibility to keep control of your aircraft, would increase sicnificance of SP. To be honest, even with this rough beta version we can get great excitement. Evil.Bonsai Posted July 12, 2012 Posted July 12, 2012 My initial impression was Holy Hell I'm getting my ass handed to me by these AI tanks. Trees are pretty but of absolutely no consequence to enemy AI. I was trying to move a group of tanks forward and lost every one of them. I ended mission, watched replay, and found that a lone tank on a hill was blasting them with ATGMs. I went back into mission and tried using an Abrahms against him but lost that one, too. Then found that a Bradley with TOW was fairly affective. Took out three tanks but got too close to last one (he was out of ATGMs) and he got me with AP round.
Hornet85 Posted July 13, 2012 Author Posted July 13, 2012 Thanks guys for the replies. Bought it yesterday, and just like several other users here, I spend the entire day reading the manual trying to figure out how to use it.:joystick: Turns out I need to use the mission editor and enable pilot to control other vehicle.:P Hopefully future updates will enable easier access in single player missions if possible. Amazing addition to DCS nevertheless, love messing around with the tank
