openfalcon68 Posted July 21, 2012 Posted July 21, 2012 For $5.00 and am wondering what all I need so I can play Blackshark in DCS World..... Any pointers or steps to follow ?? Thanks Manish
garengarch Posted July 21, 2012 Posted July 21, 2012 (edited) Wrong version - you need BS2. So you either need to purchase the BS1-BS2 upgrade or BS2 standalone You can, of course, quite happily 'play' BS1 as a standalone, but not in world. You should download and install world 1.2 anyway, as its free and includes a free-to-fly Su25T. You won't be able to play multiplayer with the free world until you purchase a module. It would be good to prove DCS World runs ok on your system and the 25T is great anyway. pixelpilot Posted July 21, 2012 Posted July 21, 2012 as far as i know steam only sells Blackshark one. So you will still need the to buy the Blackshark 2 upgrade from the EDstore. Download dcs world 1.2.0 (free) from the downloads section of the EDsite and after paying for the BS2 upgrade download the BS2 upgrade module. Install DCS world then you'll have to install BS1 even if you're not going to use it. When BS1 is installed you can go ahead and install the BS2 module. The BS2 module will automatically go into the correct folders with DCS world. BS1 will be in steam folder but it doesnt matter it only needs to be installed so that the correct registry entrys are there when you run the BS2 module installer. I dont know what the price difference between the full and the upgrade version of BS2 on the ED store is but its bound to be more than 5 bucks so i reckon you've saved some cash but just got an extra step during installation, thats no big thing.
lokitexas Posted July 21, 2012 Posted July 21, 2012 It isnt that bad. I had BS1 from steam from a long time ago. Here is what I did. 1. Installed BS1 from steam. 2. Purchased the BS2 "upgrade" from here. 3. Installed DCS World. 4. Installed the BS2 upgrade to DCS "World". 5. Uninstalled BS1 from steam. -then- 6. Purcahsed A10 from steam. Did not install. 7. DLed the A10 module from here. 8. Installed the module from here into DCS World. 9. Entered my steam ID when prompted in DCS World. 10. Done. Buying the upgrade saves you $15. i5 3570k @ 4.3 560ti GTX 2gig 8gig RAM Intel SSD Win7 64bit
pseudonym Posted July 21, 2012 Posted July 21, 2012 Actually, getting BS1 from steam right now and then getting the upgrade is cheaper than getting the stand alone. Just get the BS1 -> 2 upgrade and you're good to go.
WildBillKelsoe Posted July 21, 2012 Posted July 21, 2012 I have steam BS1, bought standalone BS2, A-10C, P-51D, and waiting for new flight gear to rock with the Bis. dburne Posted July 22, 2012 Posted July 22, 2012 do yourself a favour and DONT get the update version FULL version at gamefly £14.99 = $23.41 ($19.99 for upgrade from ED) It is only a little bit more and you dont have to deal with a limited number of activation that BS1 has , and all the mucking about. Your choice That is what I did, I had the original Black Shark installed, and rather than mess around with an upgrade for a little cheaper, and have to worry with always having the original Black Shark installed for verification - i just purchased the full version of Black Shark 2 from ED. I did not mind, as I would have it with no need for having the original installed, and I figure it helps support ED as well. openfalcon68 Posted July 22, 2012 Author Posted July 22, 2012 Did not find BS2 on gamefly but came across this http://www.getgamesgo.com/product/dcs-black-shark-2 Is this for real at 23.99 USD? Any opinions on the above ? The steam version was a mistake.....It is still downloading at 24kbps..... Wondering how another seller can sell something cheaper than the publisher..... Manish

openfalcon68 Posted July 24, 2012 Author Posted July 24, 2012 Thanks for your help. Because of the proxy, it would not allow me to make a purchase. Cart kept on showing zero qty. So bought BS2 v1.20 upgrade at DCS. Install was a no brainer. It just asked me for the BS2 key and I was on the way. The DCS Ka-50 is a very neat job. Just managed a circuit around Kobuletti. I managed to put her down in one piece at about 22kts. It will provide us a good learning curve for some days.... Manish ah HA!
