StageFright Posted August 11, 2012 Posted August 11, 2012 Now that I have your attention I need some help and I am actually willing to pay someone for it. I have started threads here in the DCS forums and gadrocsworkshop forums trying to find a solution to a problem I am having regarding Helios. The links are posted below detailing the issue and system specs. I am offering a reward of $150 to anyone that can help me solve this problem sense I can't seem to get help any other way. I seem to be the only one having this issue with Helios and my entire system I have build was for flying DCS A-10C in a virtual cockpit using Helios and now after a month of trying to figure the problem out on my own with no resolve I AM BEGGING for help. Here are the links to the threads I have started..... http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=91511 http://gadrocsworkshop.com/node/116#comment-358 Thanks in advance to anyone that can help.... cichlidfan Posted August 11, 2012 Posted August 11, 2012 I took a look, because I will take your money (kidding), but then I saw the magic word... FreeFall Posted August 11, 2012 Posted August 11, 2012 (edited) Have you checked the Windows 7 Event Viewer Logs? Any errors or warnings with time stamps matching the crash times? BTW: I don't want your money. :) Edited August 11, 2012 by FreeFall added info
Kuky Posted August 11, 2012 Posted August 11, 2012 (edited) I would like if I could help (don't care about free money although PeterP's post make me laugh :D) I see you are aware the HD7970 was causing me grief by crashing in DCS but that was eventually solved with newer driver release (I am running Catalyst 12.3 with my HD7970 and DCS doesn't crash) and I am running 4 monitors of this card but I am not using Helios or SoftTH. Just a shot in the dark ... if it's not the driver for HD7970 causing it and you are not overclocking now to eliminate this causing it, I am thinking maybe becuase you have lot of devices and lot of RAM memory on that PC maybe m/b chipset needs more power as it has to handle lot of devices on PCU bus (that includes USB devices for touchscreens that you have to use for Helios) Also, have you tried separate powered USB hub? StageFright Posted August 11, 2012 Author Posted August 11, 2012 @cichlidfan....SoftTH really didnt come into the picture until I was trying to find a fix for the issue. Problem happens with or without SoftTH installed. @CAT_101st...My GPU temp never gets above 65 degrees C according to CPUID HW monitors. From what I have read that is well within its operating limits. @FreeFall...I went and checked the Windows 7 event viewer logs as you suggested, every "minimize crash" was logged in there stating this Faulting application name: dcs.exe, version: 1.2.0.3205, time stamp: 0x4ff3450d Faulting module name: edObjects.dll, version: 1.2.0.3205, time stamp: 0x4fe364fa Exception code: 0xc0000005 Fault offset: 0x00000000000026e0 Faulting process id: 0x6b0 Faulting application start time: 0x01cd773e43e0a9dc Faulting application path: C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World\bin\dcs.exe Faulting module path: C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World\bin\edObjects.dll Report Id: 7fbb5d5d-e332-11e1-b518-c86000c5e113 @Kuky.....Right now I am running 12.6 drivers, I have tried 12.3 drivers with no joy. I can run DCS all day long with 12.6 drivers without Helios running with no problems. I am currently running a 1000watt power supply and a separate powered USB hub. But 2 of my 3 touch screens are plugged into the computer. I will plug those 2 touch screens into my powered USB hub and see what happens. Do you think its possible that 1000watt PSU just isnt enough for everything Im running? Kuky Posted August 11, 2012 Posted August 11, 2012 (edited) Even though your PSU is 1000W it just could be it has some issues, I had a 1200W PSU and it played up on me, once I replaced it with 850W Corsair PSU issues went away (sometimes the PC just wouldn't boot) and that 1200W PSU wasn't even that old (less then a year) or some crappy quality brand (it was Antec) so go figure... I mean it could really be somethign as simple as USB Hub having issues... maybe NB is overloaded, I don't really know. Wait for PeterP, he might get some more insight as he knows Helios well and I don't know anything about it since I never even used it. StageFright Posted August 11, 2012 Author Posted August 11, 2012 @Kuky....I ran all 3 of my touch screens to my USB hub and still got a "minimize crash". @FreeFall....I did get a different event log this time, but I think these logs are actually only being created do to how I have to shut down DCS. While it was minimized crashed, but not yet closed out, i check the log and nothing was in there. It wasn't until I brought up my task manager and closed DCS from there, that it actually posted an even. Same with the crash logs for DCS....hmmm.....this is what this last said Faulting application name: dcs.exe, version: 1.2.0.3205, time stamp: 0x4ff3450d Faulting module name: Space.dll, version: 1.2.0.3205, time stamp: 0x4fe36530 Exception code: 0xc0000005 Fault offset: 0x000000000000445b Faulting process id: 0x1388 Faulting application start time: 0x01cd77b2062b807a Faulting application path: C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World\bin\dcs.exe Faulting module path: C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World\bin\Space.dll Report Id: 618b3501-e3a6-11e1-91a2-c86000c5e113 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] | Windows 7 64bit | i7 3960x oc'd 4.8 GHz | Asus Rampage IV Formula | 4 x 8 GB Corsair Vengance DDR3 | ASUS 7970-DC2-3GD5 | Asus Xonar DX | Corsair H100 | OCZ Vertex 2 x 120 GB SSD RAID-0 | 3 x ASUS 27" monitors Eyefinity | 2 x ASUS 24" monitors w/touchscreen overlays | ViewSonic 22" TouchScreen Monitor | TM HOTAS Warthog | Saitek Combat Pedals | TrackIR 5 | Logitech G19 | Logitech G9x Mouse | Astro A40 headset | ButtKicker Gamer 2 | SoftTH x64 | Loz's Helios Profile |
FreeFall Posted August 11, 2012 Posted August 11, 2012 ^^ Those lines must have been extracted from the Application log? I cannot really interpret those codes/lines. Maybe some ED guy could tell something about the Space.dll? Or that other failing .dll? I assume there are no errors in Event Viewer -> Windows Logs -> System, right?
StageFright Posted August 11, 2012 Author Posted August 11, 2012 @Freefall.....checked under system just now....every crash comes with this Display driver amdkmdap stopped responding and has successfully recovered. But why would my Display drivers crash only when Helios is running? FreeFall Posted August 11, 2012 Posted August 11, 2012 (edited) Get rid of your graphics card drivers with http://phyxion.net/Driver-Sweeper/Driver-Sweeper/ and install drivers once again. edit: I think you have already done that.... edit2: You can find lotsa material if you google "Display driver amdkmdap stopped responding and has successfully recovered". Must be a graphics card (drivers) -related problem. Edited August 11, 2012 by FreeFall
Skymad Posted August 11, 2012 Posted August 11, 2012 I don't know if it was mentioned before but: - you have powerfull PC, try playing without ANY OC. Also try memtest running from CD/Linux live cd. - unplug all non-essential devices Do you have a possibility to try with diffirent GPU? Display driver amdkmdap stopped responding and has successfully recovered. This can be GPU's fault.
StageFright Posted August 11, 2012 Author Posted August 11, 2012 @FreeFall....I google searched "Display driver amdkmdap stopped responding and has successfully recovered" and my head nearly exploded with all the results found. @Skymad......Im sure my GPU is good because I do run other games such as BF 3, Cliffs of Dover and MechWarriors Online Beta. I have never had this crash or GPU issue with any of those games. They all seem pretty stable. If I had to guess, my problem has to have something to do with Helios and my 7970 not getting along with either the drivers or GPU itself. This ONLY happens with Heilos running while flying DCS A-10C. Which is why this has me so lost. cichlidfan Posted August 11, 2012 Posted August 11, 2012 Another thing I would be curious about is if you monitor and log your motherbd voltages what do you see just befor the crash. I have no doubt that your system, running DCS and Helios, is probably working harder than it does for most other games. If you PSU is marginal at higher loads you might not see the problem except under extreme conditions. If you have another PSU to swap in that would be ideal. StageFright Posted August 11, 2012 Author Posted August 11, 2012 @cichlidan.....I don't have another PSU to swap out with to test, but if there is even a chance that my 1000watt PSU can't keep up with what I'm asking of it, then I will go ahead and order a new one. Skymad Posted August 11, 2012 Posted August 11, 2012 1000W is more than enough, no need for more powerfull one, unless it's powering your oven :)
FreeFall Posted August 11, 2012 Posted August 11, 2012 1000W is more than enough, no need for more powerfull one, unless it's powering your oven :) Agree. Especially with only a single display card.

Will 1300watts be enough? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817182063 I am not concerned with the size. 850 would be enough. Most 1000w PSUs will handle that machine no problem. However, if a component inside the supply is becoming marginal at a certail load level then you have an issue regardless of how many watts the supply is capable of providing. I can't say I am recommending buying one (unless you don't mind having a spare) without further testing. StageFright Posted August 11, 2012 Author Posted August 11, 2012 Yeah it might be overkill, but on top of all that hardware and software running, I am also running 13 fans and a Corsair water cooler for my cpu. Maybe one of my fans is kicking up when my temps rise and drawing just enough juice to hick up my GPU causing the game to minimize to the task bar, but then recovers almost instantly but leaving DCS in an unrecoverable state. The game keeps running but it wont maximize back up. Maybe overkill is what I need for this thing. In my mind that makes sense or am I retarded? At this point I am willing to try anything. StageFright Posted August 11, 2012 Author Posted August 11, 2012 I think I will order a new PSU just to be on the safe side and while that is shipping, hopefully PeterP (who seems to be the Yoda of this stuff) has a chance to look at my problem. FreeFall Posted August 11, 2012 Posted August 11, 2012 I think I will order a new PSU just to be on the safe side I really cannot see your PSU causing the problem at all! You have pretty large amount of RAM anyway. Have you run any MemTest programs so far? Not a very clever suggestion, but anyway.
