Mission designers:

Please don't change the view config files!

Many mp mission or one that I've downloaded have the defalt View config file and I'm stuck with a super stretched view. The default zoom fov for this game is set for triple monitors or something.

There's no reason to mess with these settings for a misison, why is this done?!

The view folder is often left in by default, the mission designer needs to look at the .miz and delete the view folder.

but not many do this hence why when you join some servers your custom view or snap views change.

Is it just me or does anyone else consider that a bug? Why on earth would you want to include the snap view settings in a mission that you were going to use for MP or sharing? If the mission runs on the same machine it was created on then it still does not need that folder.

Sorry to seem all aggravated

Allow me to explain in detail why this is such a problem

About the best thing to do with the zoom axis in this or any flight sim is to map it to the rudder toe axis on your pedals. Now you can zoom in and out at any speed, not limited like it would be when using a key press, plus you can do it without taking your fingers off of any other control, and when doing the A-10 of course all your fingers are occupied that’s for sure. It takes a bit of practice to rudder and zoom at the same time and you lose right and left braking I suppose but it works really well.

But then it’s necessary to set the max zoom out so when you release the toe brake you are zoomed out to something normal like about 90d, I think the default zoom out is set for triple screens, whatever the reason it’s too wide. I can’t be the only person who needs to adjust this or uses that zoom method; I think it’s quite common.

Can you edit the .miz file?

I am puzzled why this setting wouldn’t just use your own default. It would be like the mission resetting all your key mappings or something, it’s not very user friendly. All the preloaded missions use your config settings, why not downloaded ones? Or mp?

Sorry to complain, I’m really liking the sim and want more missions!

Yes you can edit miz files. You can access it with winrar or 7zip as the file basically is a zipped archive.

I'm not 100% sure what causes view or other files to be saved directly into the miz. If it is done automatically I don't know what causes it. However I have several missions which I've downloaded or made myself which lack extra files being forced within the mission.

The right man in the wrong place makes all the difference in the world.

Well, I think I know one way they will frequently get in there: track files.

Someone takes a track file, and "converts" it back into a mission by simply changing the extension to .miz.

Of course, this is very bad, as it leaves the track data still in it, leading to excessively huge mission sizes. Some people know how to unzip the .miz and remove the track data, but you also need to remove the views settings.

Intelligent discourse can only begin with the honest admission of your own fallibility.
