firefly2442 Posted September 23, 2012 Posted September 23, 2012 I'm trying to setup my TACAN for a tanker so that I can find it and attempt to refuel, however, after setting it to the last notch (for air-to-air) and then putting in the designated number value, I switched the mode on the front dash to TCN. However, it then hides the number of miles to the target. Is there a step I'm missing?
Revelation Posted September 23, 2012 Posted September 23, 2012 Post a track. Is this a mission you created or one you downloaded? There are several variables that can come into play and a track to see how the mission was put together and what you are doing would aid in the troubleshooting process. ENO Posted September 23, 2012 Posted September 23, 2012 Hmmmm- interesting. I've finally had the courage to start working on the tacan / ILS side of things as well and had the same thing happen to me while approaching BATUMI. My understanding is if it has a TACAN signal of 16X that I Would have to set m.... oh crap now I know. We needed to set the one knob over to the proper setting. I think in your case it's AATR. I'm pretty sure I didn't set mine properly either now that I'm writing this. "ENO" Type in anger and you will make the greatest post you will ever regret. "Sweetest's" Military Aviation Art
BigfootMSR Posted September 23, 2012 Posted September 23, 2012 Ah, glad to see you got that worked out WildBill.. I was wondering what happened with that. You never responded. DCS: A10C Warthog JTAC coordinate entry training mission http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/99424/ DCS: Blackshark 2 interactive training missions http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=84612
ralfidude Posted September 23, 2012 Posted September 23, 2012 I have a similar issue at times. Its the dial mode. Its not always AATR, sometimes its one of the other knobs. I just scroll through the knobs and when I see the miles range working I know I have the right one. [sIGPIC]http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b66/ralfidude/redofullalmost_zpsa942f3fe.gif[/sIGPIC]
ENO Posted September 23, 2012 Posted September 23, 2012 Yeah that's one way. At least now I know which knob to play with! "ENO" Type in anger and you will make the greatest post you will ever regret. "Sweetest's" Military Aviation Art

Make sure that the tanker frequency is using the X freq, Unless it's been changed in 1.2, the Y freq does not give DME.
Eddie Posted September 23, 2012 Posted September 23, 2012 Make sure that the tanker frequency is using the X freq, Unless it's been changed in 1.2, the Y freq does not give DME. That should indeed have been fixed in 1.2. Although it's worth mentioning that IRL the KC-135 TACAN, like other aircraft with A/A TACAN can only provide range, not bearing. Only the KC-10 has a full TACAN beacon capable of giving both range and bearing.
