My first panel

Ah, ok!

Are you going to use a special printing process? Sadly, you don't get enough color saturation from normal printers to block the light from the light box. :(

I am in the process of getting a sign maker to do this in a vinyl lettering material laying over a frosted plexiglass ..If it cuts out with small enough detail it will definitely block out the stray light. If it works I will post pictures

Yeah, I had a buddy of mine get the files ready for printing.

(See the PDFs at the bottom of page 7)

 

They are setup so there are several layers to be printed. The first layer which would be printed a base color and the text and graphics are slightly wider than the final layer print. Then the final layer text and graphics are the correct size. This process is called choke or spread.

The files are also set up for pantone colors. I'll just need to select the correct color for the EFC caution colors and the grey button color for the keys on the CDU. :) If anyone knows the pantone color for the EFC caution line colors and the CDU key colors please let me know. Thanks!

The buttons are gray FS 36231 and the indicators appear to be NVIS yellow. I have no idea what the pantone colors equivalent is for those colors. :smilewink:

I just got my panels printed!!!! :) :) I'm very happy. they were printed on a solvent inkjet printer with multiple passes and printed on 8 mil backlit film and then laminated with 2 mil gloss. I know some of you are going to say something about it being gloss but I like it. Makes it looks shiny and new. :) :) The guys made the keys for the CDU a bit darker to compinsate for when they are backlit. Not a problem for me.

Wow that looks great all shinny and new!!! It even reflects like a mirror I am sure it will tone down a bit with some use . I think it will work out great for you. Oh you never said any thing by the way I hope the colors help out. your welcome:cry:

Sorry about that Deadman. I just went with some generic colors. I'm not going for exact replica here but just wanted to get an idea of the colors if anyone had them on hand. No biggy. :)

Here is a shot of the panels laying on the light boxes. I'm going to pick up a 7/16" punch to cut a hole in the film and then I'm going to drill the holes in the acrylic to mount the switches. I need to paint the sides and trim the bottom. I'm also planing on mounting the panels with hinges so I can get access to the inside and make adjustments if needed. The pictures don't do this justice. THIS THING IS TURNING OUT AWESOME!

Still, this picture does not capture how deep of a green this really is. It looks like the same color as the TM Cougar MFCD green on the dimmest setting.

My goal with this is to make a pit I can stow away when not in use. Easy to setup and cheap, cheap, cheap, but still decent quality. Got to keep my gf and wallet happy! :)

I am blessed with having build an cnc router with a good friend of mine... so it takes care of the lot when the drawings have been made :music_whistling:

 

But once in a while I do use an ordinary drill bit. Sorry probably not the answer you were looking for.
