luza Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 Hey guys, I've had this happen a few times. I am hovering at altitudes above 50 M, even sometimes I am in the hover (very stable) for a longer period of time (5-10) minutes and this has also happend. This also has happend in shorter hovers. The autopilot channels simply decide to disengage... Does anyone have any insight in this?? :book: [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
WildBillKelsoe Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 ah... you sure you were at 50 m? IIRC, autopilot channels start flashing if you engage hover after a stable trim' hover. meaning you trim the shark, and your speed is zero, then you start hover hold (overhead left light comes on) then you look down to the channels and they're flashing.. they also come on if you're 3-4 meters above ground if you're engaging hover as well with channels on. been like 9 months since last playing the shark, I hope I'm right, or I'll re-study the manual. (fVck NO! I got 21 coming up and I'm sharpening my knives!!!) AWAITING ED NEW DAMAGE MODEL IMPLEMENTATION FOR WW2 BIRDS Fat T is above, thin T is below. Long T is faster, Short T is slower. Open triangle is AWACS, closed triangle is your own sensors. Double dash is friendly, Single dash is enemy. Circle is friendly. Strobe is jammer. Strobe to dash is under 35 km. HDD is 7 times range key. Radar to 160 km, IRST to 10 km. Stay low, but never slow.
luza Posted September 25, 2012 Author Posted September 25, 2012 I am definantly above 50 meters, I am well aware the autopilots disengage at 4m. This is why I am puzzled [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Nate--IRL-- Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 I know it happens, but I've not been able to get it in a reliable track, if you get one please post it to me. Nate Ka-50 AutoPilot/stabilisation system description and operation by IvanK- Essential Reading

Weta43 Posted September 26, 2012 Posted September 26, 2012 Just out of curiosity - I know you said you were in a stable hover, but how far had you drifted while in hover ? I haven't had it happen for a while, and haven't checked systematically, but I always thought it happened if you weren't quite trimmed for a stationary hover (or were against a wind, then changed where the nose was pointing - perhaps as turn on target does its job) and drifted in the hover, then the AP channels either ran out of authority while trying to get you back to the original hover spot or no longer could the inputs needed to get back to the hover spot, & then after some period like that they "let go" Cheers.
ajax Posted September 26, 2012 Posted September 26, 2012 The same thing has happened to me. In fact it did it once tonight. It is very sporadic, though. I was definitely in a stable hover... the autopilot assists just turn off. It is possible that there is a glitch in my joystick mapping software, as there have been times where I hit my Team Speak push-to-talk button (mapped to my collective) and the autohover turns on. Again, it is very sporadic and I cannot intentionally reproduce the behavior.
Nate--IRL-- Posted September 26, 2012 Posted September 26, 2012 No this is different - the Autopilot stabilisation channels shut off while in auto hover - if you are heads down with the Shkval you'll look up to find yourself upside down :( Nate Ka-50 AutoPilot/stabilisation system description and operation by IvanK- Essential Reading
lokitexas Posted September 26, 2012 Posted September 26, 2012 No this is different - the Autopilot stabilisation channels shut off while in auto hover - if you are heads down with the Shkval you'll look up to find yourself upside down :( Nate Have had this happen a few times as well. Dont notice until, yeah, I am already in a very bad and odd position. i5 3570k @ 4.3 560ti GTX 2gig 8gig RAM Intel SSD Win7 64bit
MeerCaT Posted September 26, 2012 Posted September 26, 2012 It is probably not the cause for 99% of the instances of this issue, but it might be worth bearing in mind the "Emergency Autopilot Disable" button (a button on the cyclic). Some might have this mapped on their HOTAS and accidentally press it without noticing on 'random' occasions.
SNAFU2000 Posted September 26, 2012 Posted September 26, 2012 You have to wait until the Doppler is booted. It takes some minutes. Good indicator is the Speed on top left on your HUD, if displayed, your Doppler is running
Nate--IRL-- Posted September 26, 2012 Posted September 26, 2012 This is long after the doppler and INS have aligned. Nate Ka-50 AutoPilot/stabilisation system description and operation by IvanK- Essential Reading
doveman Posted September 26, 2012 Posted September 26, 2012 I've had the same problem, hitting LAlt-T resulting in all the AP channels disengaging and the helo spinning wildly. Then I have trouble re-engaging them, I think I had to press R or D to toggle Route/Descent mode before I could re-engage the AP channels. I may well have been activating it in the wrong circumstances though as I'm just learning how to control this bird and was following a tutorial about taking off and hovering, so I'll note the advice in this thread and try again ;) Main rig: i5-4670k @4.4Ghz, Asus Z97-A, Scythe Kotetsu HSF, 32GB Kingston Savage 2400Mhz DDR3, 1070ti, Win 10 x64, Samsung Evo 256GB SSD (OS & Data), OCZ 480GB SSD (Games), WD 2TB and WD 3TB HDDs, 1920x1200 Dell U2412M, 1920x1080 Dell P2314T touchscreen
Nate--IRL-- Posted September 26, 2012 Posted September 26, 2012 Yeah that sounds like the INS/doppler system isn't aligned yet. Nate Ka-50 AutoPilot/stabilisation system description and operation by IvanK- Essential Reading
ShuRugal Posted September 26, 2012 Posted September 26, 2012 i have had this happen often enough that i no longer zoom fully into the shkval when i am auto-hovering, i keep the FoV wide enough that i can see the gimbals as well.
