Please Help...

A short time ago I set up a new system with the following specs:

i5-3570K @ 4.500 GHz (stable)

8 GB

Win 7 64bit

Ati Radeon HD 5870

Game installed on SSD

TrackIR 5

I run DCS with the following options:

Textures high

Scenes High

Civ. Traffic low

Water low

Visib. Range High

Shadows high

res. 1680*1050

Aspect 16:10

screen 1

Cockpit res. 1024

Msaa 4*

HDR norm.

Clutter/Bushes 0 m

Trees 6000m

Preload... 150 000

disable aero

Fullscreen

Tsaa

mirrors off

i applied the recent version of DCS 1.2.1 with following update

When i now start the instant action misson "Freeflight Sukhumi" i do not receice more than 28 frame/sec. when i look straight forward. By the time i played the 1.2.0 version i also didnt have more frames than about 30.

By reading numerous threads i come to the conclusion that there should be more possible.

Can anybody help? what i´m i doing wrong? what is the limiting thing? some possbility to gain more fps?

Please help... thx in advance

try scenes to medium...vis range lower..and preload half what you have...im getting 60fps in same mission at start with quad 3.0ghz and gtx 580.

Flying low level to the carrier over water is great..that new water is fantastic...very immersive even on low

i did everything you said... not more that 33 frames...strange, isnt it?

my options...scenes medium..water low...vis range low..preload 60000

your gfx card could be your bottleneck..my resolution 1920x1200...and a second monitor for mfcd

i dont believe that that my radeon is the bottleneck, because our gfx cards are of nearly the same generation, age and so on... i also thought that our precious game would be much more cpu-thirsty...

btw: the new water indeed is really cool... thx by now

I too tried lowering Scenes to Medium, Vis range to Low, preload to 75000 (Water and Shadows were already on low) in the hope it would help but no, on Cold Start in Mozdok if I do auto-startup by the time that's completed I get 36-24-28 (straight ahead, left, right), which is pretty much the same as I get with the settings on High.

I tested on "Freeflight Sukhumi" and got between 36-44 FPS on that.

I've got a Phenom II X4 955 and 6950 2GB.

Main rig: i5-4670k @4.4Ghz, Asus Z97-A, Scythe Kotetsu HSF, 32GB Kingston Savage 2400Mhz DDR3, 1070ti, Win 10 x64, Samsung Evo 256GB SSD (OS & Data), OCZ 480GB SSD (Games), WD 2TB and WD 3TB HDDs, 1920x1200 Dell U2412M, 1920x1080 Dell P2314T touchscreen

I think your radeon is about 30% less umph by comparison and a mid range card at best...this game wants more

open gpu-z.exe (continue refreshing while in background option) fly shukumi, if your card says 75-90% activity, then it's maxed out.

If it shows 70-, your CPU or something in the sim may waste cpu cycles.

I'm getting 14 fps on high settings (40-60% activity) and 28 on low (70-85% activity) with my 4890, over the city ! (was higher before flyby)

another good test, make a mission, select one node and create a large battle group. near a city more likely.

just put your shark somewhere and fly over the battle.( mode invincible could be useful here)

if you're getting low fps with low settings, then it's not your card. Use gpu-z also. mine are 7fps high, 18 low, and activity idling in both cases.

My POV is 5870 is a little step from 4870+ but it's a nice card anyway.

Aren´t there some other possibilities?

The SIM?

See #5 below:

DCS 1.2.1 Update - 2 October 2012

The team is reading the feedback and is actively taking steps to remedy the problems identified in 1.2.1 to include:

1- Reimbursing used activations when updating to 1.2.1.

2- Addressing continued issues with the master server.

3- Migrating several fixes in the internal versions to the auto updater.

4- Providing a change log to the Auto Updater dialog window.

5- Providing solutions to frame rate issues that some users are having.

The team is working hard on these and we hope to have this issues resolved as soon as possible.

Thanks

Please be patient.

Try replace high.lua of 1.2.1 by high.lua of 1.2.0. This work for me.

how do i get the old high.lua... i deleted 1.2.0... so can you send me yours in some way?

Ok, i tested this...when i fly over sukhumi the gpu-load is nearby 100%... the next test, with the flight over a heavy battle in low settings provides a a stable framerate at about 35...

does this really mean i´d have to buy a new gfxcard?

What does the sentence "mine are 7fps high, 18 low, and activity idling in both cases" mean?

But there ist one thing i dont understand: Many people here on this forum have older gfxcards, an worse cpus but they talk about having 50-60 frames in about the same preferences in their game options??? How can this be? Looking forward on what viper said, that there a some users with more framerate-problems than others - and that i am one of them - so a fix can fix it! ;-)

Last night before I did the update I was getting 9-10 FPS. Did the update and it went up to 12-14. Had bunch of things happening within the map and 3 others in server with. Noticed a bit of shimmering but that was at the start of the mission and then it went away and never saw that again. Running 9600GT here. Did slow things down a bit but then everyone in the server at the time was noticing the same thing so at least we were on level playing field. Give it time and ED will solve it. I am impressed with the patch despite all the critisim in the negative. Connectivity seems to be much better then it was before. One thing I am confused about prior to this new version I had BS1 and BS2 standalones as well as DCS world. This was a result from an upgrade from BS1 to BS2 when it came out. Now the BS2 standalone is gone. This doesn't bother me so much as if we want to run just BS2 we can lock the server down or mission for just the KA-50 anyways. Just passing along an observation.

I too lost activations but I am not too concerned about it as ED will make it right.

By my sentence 7fps... idling in both cases i meant :

my GPU in those cases hit 30-45% activity, as i said elsewhere : "it's making icecube" especially for 48xx series

-> means my CPUs (dual socket lover) even at 3Ghz+ are "way too outdated" quoting someone else. (he deserves a slap for saying that)

In your case in high settings, seeing 90/100% is a good number imho.

a good tip in Gpu-Z is now it shows VRAM utilization for Nvidia/ATi. if you have 1Gb Vram and the monitor tells you 998Mb dedicated + 120 dynamic then it's too high for it. lower some settings like HDR or AA.

Moreover, DCS FPS epic quest is nothing you'd seen before, it may be anything, drivers, power idling, god's will... or simply ED vinci code :megalol:

In anycase, your problem is not your CPU clock speed. that's for sure.

PS : Damn, 580 maxed out ???? holy crap ! new water effect ?

Yes it's quite nice, but it misses Kilo or U-boot class subs now !

DCS ships !!! :smartass:
