Autoupdate not working for me...

Autoupdate does not work for me.

I´m using Win XP 32bit (Yeah I know - have discussed this before in this forum)

Running it tells me that a new version is available, but when I run it I'm asked which user to run it for.

Clicking Ok for my user name let's the DCS autoupdater run in the background.

After a while an error message tells me "Can´t update"

Is it possible to download the patches without the use of the autoupdater ?

Have a look at the DCS\Logs\ folder under your user directory, and see if there's an autoupdate.log file there. The contents of that might provide more information as to why it's failing.

Good idea...

But if it fails, will it still be possible to download updates manually ?

I´m not especially happy....

1.2.0 never worked for me due to effects.dll crashes.

Now I cannot update to latest version.

It upgrading to 1.2.1 also have costet me a activation for each of my modules.

I know that this is beta only, but still..

Ok

Here is it step by step

Starting DCS World updater:

DCSW_Upd1.JPG

Clicking "Ja" (Yes)

Then it runs the Validation process and the download process and comes up with this:

DCSW_Upd2.JPG

I click Ok and get this:

DCSW_Upd3.JPG

Translated from Danish to English it means: " The service can not be started because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it."

I click Ok and get this:

DCSW_Upd4.JPG

And thats it...

Just a small note...

The path' used for DCS World are:

Main sim folder:

C:\Spil Finn\DCS World\

Settings etc:

C:\Documents and Settings\Finn Jacobsen\Dokumenter\My Games\DCS\

(Thats where I find my Autoupdate.log in the \Logs\ folder

Best regards

I googled quite a bit and it looks like quite known DCOM error. Most probably you disabled DCOM service (it should be set to start Automatic). In some cases it's due to malware.

Do a check, to be safe.

Thx for loking into it.

I will try to enable DCOM services when I come home.

How to enble (for others with similar issues):

I´m quite sure that I have no Malware, but who knows.

DCOM Services was enabled here.

I tried to Disable, and enable it again.

But it still doesn´t work.

I also get the error "Can´t update, another instance of the updater is running.

My question about a manual appliable patch has been unanswered.

I don´t hope that I´m left behind.

Try logging in as admin and then run the updater.

Most likely you won't have an "Update DCS" shortcut in admin menu, so remove autoupdate.settings file from DCS\Config folder to force an update.

This would be as close to manual update application as is technically possible.

What I can say for sure on Windows XP 32-bit SP3 German version autoupdate works as intended. It asks to select a user - this dialog is the UAC equivalent on XP - and then proceeds to success.

The error message you get is definitely related to some disabled service. AFAIR, many people "optimized" their XP installations by disabled services they thought aren't needed. I did this too, many years ago. Don't known which service is in charge in this case.

Yeah, who knows.

This means I must give up at this point, only hoping that there still will be complete updates made available for download, thus not having to use the autoupdater.

I have serveral other games that updates via an autoupdating function and never had problems doing so.

can you try running disc cleanup Finn. You do this by right clicking the c drive and select properties (innsstillinger). make sure you select to clean temporary folders also.

(HJ)

Thanks for the advice....

But belive me, I clean up regulary on my PC, both epmtying out the temp folders as well as defragging etc.

I never tangle with socalled systemoptimising, cause ,mots of it only boils down to placebo effect.

I have tons of FSX stuff as well as a bunch of other games and flightsims and tools.

I have never problems running them.
