doveman Posted October 4, 2012 Posted October 4, 2012 I've mentioned this before but thought it deserved it's own thread as I still don't know why it's happening. Testing with Cold Start in Mozdok, if I do Auto-Start, by the time my helo is ready (i.e. 3 minutes later) I have about 38 FPS looking straight ahead but if I look to my left, at the static, non-powered helos, this drops to 23 FPS. Looking right at the single powered-up helo it drops to about 28 FPS. I can understand that being in close proximity to other powered helos might cause additional strain on the CPU/GPU (although I imagine it has to calculate much the same data wherever in the world they are) and there is a drop when the helo on the right (or any other helo) flies in front of me (which I assume is GPU related) but I can't see any reason why looking at a group of static models on my left should cause a 40% drop in FPS. Surely the view distance and thus how much rendering/calculation has to be done in terms of terrain, is the same whether I'm looking straight ahead or left and when looking straight ahead there's also the Shkval and Abris and the other cockpit instruments to render which aren't visible when looking left/right. So can anyone explain this or give me any hope that it might improve in the near future? I've tried lowering a few settings, i.e. Water to Low, Shadows to Low, MSAA and TSAA off, Scenes and Textures to Medium, Preload to 75000, none of which have made any difference to this problem (they've probably given me 2-4 FPS when flying around though). Watari Posted October 4, 2012 Posted October 4, 2012 I have nearly my old performance back after i installed my old mods: Smoke, effect, fire and new smoketrial effects from the download section. also i have the destroyed vehicle pack. after the last small hotfixes via auto updater and thos modfiles it runs very smooth. OK, thanks for the explanation. It's just a shame that 2 or 3 models just sitting there cripple my framerate so much. SkateZilla Posted October 4, 2012 Posted October 4, 2012 i have that problem with A-10 at Batumi, look left, good, look right, Slide Show. its a combination of the AI Aircraft and the Ground Objects, because if i switch to free camera and move around, as soon as the A-10 and Buildings that were to my right are out of view the Frame Rate jumps from 22 to 75+ while still looking at the terrain. So it's maybe something to do with the combination of a Aircraft and Terrain w/ Buildings visible. reducing trees and clutter to the lowest had no effect. and the highest I could get at batumi looking right was 31 w/ everything on LOW, dropping to 1 screen from 3, disabling all the MSAA. Once Im on the runway or taxing away from the buildings Im fine 45-51 FrPS. Multiplayer is the same, 35-45FrPS, I did notice, even in F2 up close, the Other players on the server are represented with a lower Polygon A-10 Model (no Fan Blades etc etc), while in SP Mode, the Parked Aircraft are all Max LOD (fan Blades etc). Im Not sure, but I dont think Engine Fire was bein sent over the network in MP either, as I had an Engine Fire, Long black smoke trail and flames, but a screenshot from another player just shows my A-10 w/ heavy damage. No fire, no Smoke. Maybe this can help you:) (settings on medium; AA is off; HDR off) Thanks but I don't think those mods (not sure which ones you mean, I had a quick look in the mods sub-forum) will help with this particular problem as there's no smoke, fire, etc in view when it happens. I've on Medium with AA off and HDR off at the moment too, with Shadows and Water on Low. At least it's not just me then! I just tried the latest patch on Attack Insurgents and at one point it dropped to 7-10 FPS for quite a while, which I've never seen before. It was also freezing/stuttering from time to time, including just as I was about to land, sending me smacking into the ground and exploding (to be fair I probably would have crashed anyway but I'd rather the PC didn't crash for me!) When it was OK it was around 38-45 FPS though. doveman Posted October 4, 2012 Author Posted October 4, 2012 I did some more testing with HWInfo running on my second monitor. I could see that my CPU was running about 33% total, with about 50-60% on core 0 and core 3, with about 10-15 on core 1 and 20-25 on core 2. The GPU was running about 60-80%. I tried overclocking it from 800/1250 to 890/1350 and putting PowerTune on max but that didn't make much, if any difference to framerates although it probably reduced the % of GPU that was being used at any one time. The strange thing is, when I look to the left at the static helos which cause my framerate to drop, the GPU usage actually goes down, for example from 72% to 62%. It's like DCSW can't even be bothered to try and use it to keep the FPS up! At the same time the CPU cores are as above (they drop slightly when looking to the left as well but not as much), so I've got plenty of CPU and GPU power spare but DCSW just doesn't want to use it and would rather just give me 23 FPS :( Main rig: i5-4670k @4.4Ghz, Asus Z97-A, Scythe Kotetsu HSF, 32GB Kingston Savage 2400Mhz DDR3, 1070ti, Win 10 x64, Samsung Evo 256GB SSD (OS & Data), OCZ 480GB SSD (Games), WD 2TB and WD 3TB HDDs, 1920x1200 Dell U2412M, 1920x1080 Dell P2314T touchscreen
