Kula66 Posted November 13, 2005 Posted November 13, 2005 http://www.aviation.ru/www.rusarm.ru/video/ In the Igla video in this directory ... they fire at a delta winged a/c ... any idea what it is? I assume its a Mirage ... were there any all delta winged Russian a/c? or do the French sell old Mirages as targets?

The S-125 Pechora-2T test firing. http://www.tetraedr.com/e_video_s125.php Great stuff Chizh ... any chance of seeing SA-2s and SA-3 in LO?? Or even better some of that fearsome visually aimed AAA? ZSU-57-2s or the static version? I've always wanted to do night attacks with the tracers filling the sky!
ED Team Chizh Posted November 13, 2005 ED Team Posted November 13, 2005 I think we shall make that old soviet iron in the next-gen project. ;) Единственный урок, который можно извлечь из истории, состоит в том, что люди не извлекают из истории никаких уроков. (С) Джордж Бернард Шоу
MBot Posted November 13, 2005 Posted November 13, 2005 I think we shall make that old soviet iron in the next-gen project. ;) Cool. Make that project a cold war sim :) And thanks for the videos, very interesting.
192nd_Erdem Posted November 13, 2005 Posted November 13, 2005 OT I want present to you short video of Osa SAM. You can find link to the video and photos on this page: http://www.tetraedr.com/e_news2005.php#4 Tee direct link to the video: http://www.tetraedr.com/file/osa-1t_3.zip Russians broke my heart this time :P This thing looks like an ugly duck near those "piece of art" designs like Tunguska,Tor and Shilka :)

The S-125 Pechora-2T test firing. http://www.tetraedr.com/e_video_s125.php Note the large miss distances ... in most cases >10m. Force_Feedback Posted November 13, 2005 Posted November 13, 2005 Note the large miss distances ... in most cases >10m. What do you expect from a 1959 vintage design? I mean yes, they can upgrade the wiring and guidance radars, but the missile itself (and the seeker) remain the same. And radar guided missiles aren't very precise, except for the most new systems (PAC-3, S300V/PMU2 etc.). But 13m is quite a distance, even if it has a kill radius of 13m. Now, I'd love to see those S-200 test lanches, but they're classified :( Creedence Clearwater Revival:worthy:
GGTharos Posted November 13, 2005 Posted November 13, 2005 It has a kill radius of over 18m ;) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
Kula66 Posted November 13, 2005 Posted November 13, 2005 Russians broke my heart this time :P This thing looks like an ugly duck near those "piece of art" designs like Tunguska,Tor and Shilka :) But up close the thing is MASSIVE ... Anyone know what its combat record is like?
Force_Feedback Posted November 13, 2005 Posted November 13, 2005 It has a kill radius of over 18m ;) Different sites say different things ;) fas.org says 12.5 globalsecurity.org says 12.5 as well Or maybe the 2m got a bigger kill radius because of a better fuse? Unless it's some directional detonation fuse, I can't see how the kill radius can grow to 18m. Creedence Clearwater Revival:worthy:
GGTharos Posted November 13, 2005 Posted November 13, 2005 It's a pretty big warhead in that missile - it's kill radius is likely quite large. The SA-2 I recall was quoted as having a 65m kill radius - farther than its fuze could see AFAIK. Accoridng to those videos anyway, the SA-3's kill radius is over 18m. Keep in mind that the missile can probably be command detonated also. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
Sleek Posted November 13, 2005 Author Posted November 13, 2005 another cool vid of an apache firing on a tank https://mfcbastion.external.lmco.com/mfc/videolibrary/LONGBOW_MISSILE.mpg I likes this one :) https://mfcbastion.external.lmco.com/mfc/videolibrary/LOSAT2.mpg heres the link to the site..quite a few videos on there..enjoy;) http://www.missilesandfirecontrol.com/our_news/video_library.html If anyone else has any cool military video links could u please post them thx :) Be Good..Be Strong..:drink: ;)
192nd_Erdem Posted November 13, 2005 Posted November 13, 2005 Now these videos are awesome, thanks chizh :) I don't think 10-12mt is too far,if it doesn't destroy it would at least make the aircraft disengage and try to save it's ass from second missile.
Brit_Radar_Dude Posted November 14, 2005 Posted November 14, 2005 Cobra360 said - Is it just me or are those vids speeded up slightly? The radars dishes rotate very quickly. I think you will find that for short range air defenses like Tunguska, the radar really does rotate that fast. The longer the range you desire then the slower the rotation rate, eg for a long range radar such as the first one I worked on for Marconi, it had a rotation speed of 6 times a minute and a range of about 250 miles. The flip side is that when you see a potential target, you have to wait 10 seconds to see if it is there on the next scan and then start tracking it. These short range SAM/AAA systems dont need a long range for their search radar (eg. 25km is adequate) as their missiles have a relatively short engagement range. Much more important in such systems is to very quickly establish the tracking of the target, interrogate it for IFF, and work out if it will enter the engagement envelope. 504 Wolverine Posted November 14, 2005 Posted November 14, 2005 the first one I worked on for Marconi, it had a rotation speed of 6 times a minute and a range of about 250 miles. hhhmmmmm. Sounds like an AWACs radar to me. [/url]
Force_Feedback Posted November 14, 2005 Posted November 14, 2005 I hope it didn't fry his you know what, because I remember a case in which some Belgian Patriot operators (some military radar at least, don't remember if it was a Patriot radar) got testicular cancer from the radar, and they sued the armed forces because they were not told of the risks involved. Sealpup Posted November 14, 2005 Posted November 14, 2005 hhhmmmmm. Sounds like an AWACs radar to me. Similar concept, only strapped to the back of a plane otherwise packed with radio gear.
