GTX 670 ASUS or GIGABYTE

Hi guys, need your advice before buying, will upgrade the video card for a GTX 670 to play DCS, Rise of Flight and Battlefield 3, but there are two options available:

 

GIGABYTE GV-N670OC-2GD GeForce GTX 670 Windforce OC 2048MB

 

Asus GeForce GTX 670 DirectCU 2 TOP 2GB

 

 

Which one do you recomend?

 

The gigabyte card is my first choice because the 3 fans and the room where I play is really hot (it's my workshop :smilewink:), I even have my PC case without the lateral door to keep all the components as cool as posible.

I like Asus cards. My last was the 560Ti DCU Top which I was very happy with. I only replaced it to get more VRAM.

 

Slightly OT, I suspect your components will be a bit cooler with that side panel back on and good fans running. Assuming there aren't a lot cables and such obstructing airflow. Just IMHO. ;)

I have the ASUS and couldn't be happier with it. it's thermal solution make if very overclockable too. Of course that doesn't necessarily mean its any better than the gigabyte. About the pc case door, let's say it's a very well constructed, with a lot of internal space but not the best lateral cooling solution (8 mm fan generation :music_whistling:) I adapt it a 23" cooler master fan, but since I don't have how to control the fan RPM, I choose to let the air flow freely inside the case, fortunately not to many cables inside LOL

 

 

Well here is the verdict:

 

Gigabyte Card:

 

Pros:

1- Cheaper than the ASUS option

2- One extra fan, make it looks cool, but I don't want it for exhibition :smilewink:

 

Cons:

1- Finished below the ASUS in all the test I read

2- It has 1x 6 Pin and 1x 8 Pin and my power supply has only two 6 Pin connectors

 

 

Asus Card:

 

Pros:

1- Better performance than the Gigabyte card

2- two 6 Pin connectors in PCB, and my power supply has both

 

Cons:

1- A little bit expensive than Gigabyte

2- One less fan, but that doesn't mean the cooling system it's not efficient

 

 

WINNER: Asus GeForce GTX 670 DirectCU 2 TOP 2GB

If you are running more than 1 monitor which by yr sig it looks like you are then you might like to know that ASUS now have a 4gb 670 GTX Directcu 2 top version.

Glad you mentioned it, because I have that doubt, if I add two more monitors to have an eyefinity style desktop plus the 4th monitor for helios, such configuration will make fps drop too much?

There is probably some software somewhere that will tell you how much VRAM is being used on your current setup. I would be interested to know too as I am running a 5760x1200 setup with only 2gb VRAM. Of course buffering, antialiasing and a whole bunch of other settings affect how much VRAM is used but it would be interesting to know nonetheless.

 

If I had the choice now I would definitely get the extra VRAM and get the 4gb version. Too much vram is always better than too little.

Hi there, I recently purchased a new rig (specs in sig) I innitially started with the gigabyte windforce gtx 670, apart from the ugly blue colour it did the job well for a short time when an unfortunate accident occurred and the card was damaged. I decided then to replace it with the Asus direct cuII tops... i went through two of these, both brand new and both faulty. It was then I decided to just get an 680 which now seems to be doing the job well even with the reference cooler. So I guess to sum up, the gigabyte is a nice card if you can tolerate the blue pcb, the Asus appears to be a brilliant card if you can get one that actually works, reading up about them it seems many people can't. The superclocked 680 I have now was only about £20 more than the Asus tops anyway so may be another option, ive only just installed dcs world, put all settings to max and it seems very smooth.

Hi guys, I asked in the store but they don't have the 4gb version, it will take two or more weeks to resupply, and I can't wait. :smilewink:

 

However I will be running the sim with just two monitors, additional ones will come later.
