diveplane Posted October 7, 2012 Posted October 7, 2012 came across this one dust explosion thats way out of scale screen below dcs world build 1.2.1.6192 https://www.youtube.com/user/diveplane11 DCS Audio Modding.
Nate--IRL-- Posted October 7, 2012 Posted October 7, 2012 It is a unit "Popping" smoke when attacked. A basic effect but it does the job of obscuring the target. Nate Ka-50 AutoPilot/stabilisation system description and operation by IvanK- Essential Reading

Nate--IRL-- Posted October 7, 2012 Posted October 7, 2012 It is what it is - also, it has been present in DCS since Warthog Beta 2. Nate Ka-50 AutoPilot/stabilisation system description and operation by IvanK- Essential Reading
Corrigan Posted October 7, 2012 Posted October 7, 2012 Yes, the large white cloud is a smoke screen. Win10 x64 | SSDs | i5 2500K @ 4.4 GHz | 16 GB RAM | GTX 970 | TM Warthog HOTAS | Saitek pedals | TIR5
MagnumHB Posted October 7, 2012 Posted October 7, 2012 I've never particularly cared for this effect either. Understandable that it's not a priority though.
Corrigan Posted October 7, 2012 Posted October 7, 2012 I've never particularly cared for this effect either. Understandable that it's not a priority though. Absolutely. It's too large and dissipates too quickly. Low on the list though, as you say. Win10 x64 | SSDs | i5 2500K @ 4.4 GHz | 16 GB RAM | GTX 970 | TM Warthog HOTAS | Saitek pedals | TIR5
Witchking Posted October 7, 2012 Posted October 7, 2012 Its really awesome in gameplay though. Wanted this feature for a while. Try doing a cannon strafe on tanks and its nice to see them pop smoke. But yeah...the effect should last longer and requires more tweaking. :D WHISPR | Intel I7 5930K | Nvidia GTX980 4GB GDDR5 | 16GB DDR4 | Intel 730 series 512GB SSD | Thrustmaster WARTHOG | CH Pro Pedals | TrackIR4 pro | |A-10C|BS2 |CA|P-51 MUSTANG|UH-1H HUEY|MI-8 MTV2 |FC3|F5E|M2000C|AJS-37|FW190|BF 109K|Mig21|A-10:SSC,EWC|L-39|NEVADA|
B25Mitch Posted October 8, 2012 Posted October 8, 2012 This effect has been recycled in DCS now so many times I'm starting to lose count. Originally designed as the rotor wash effect for helicopters, it was then used for dust around explosions, then for tanks popping smoke, and now the very same effect is even used for smoke coming from a tanks main gun. We've seen from the new burning vehicles that great looking particle effects are certainly possible in the DCS engine... I think now ED just needs to create more of them!
