lokitexas Posted October 19, 2012 Posted October 19, 2012 (edited) One minute it seems framerate is top notch, and then it takes a huge dive. Now, I do know some bombs, and ground rockets can cause these, but sometimes I am getting a solid 40fps then down to 15, and back up again with nothing around me. This is flying the Ka-50 during campaign missions (Oil War 2 I think). Dont get me wrong its tons better than when 1.2.1 first came out, but still jumpy. I hope this is still getting looked at, and not passed over. Edited October 19, 2012 by lokitexas i5 3570k @ 4.3 560ti GTX 2gig 8gig RAM Intel SSD Win7 64bit
AtaliaA1 Posted October 19, 2012 Posted October 19, 2012 In another post this was narrowed down to the CBU explosions even when AI dropped them the FPS took a big hit. msalama Posted October 19, 2012 Posted October 19, 2012 In another post this was narrowed down to the CBU explosions Strangely enough, CBU detonations and/or airborne rocket salvos, AI or human, do very little or no harm to my FPS. But MRLS launches - ochboy, single digits or low tens at best  The DCS Mi-8MTV2. The best aviational BBW experience you could ever dream of.

Gunnergolly Posted October 20, 2012 Posted October 20, 2012 (edited) I can't help you with your FPS drops, i haven't played the Black Shark campaigns but we have similar spec machines and i would probably experience similar results to what your having. I have always suffered from annoying little micro-stutters when flying fast and close to the ground, Eventually after alot of searching and experimentation i eventually put it down to using the in game Vsync and "capping" my FPS at 40. However i have found that if i disable the in game V-sync, cap my FPS at 30 and then set the refresh to 1/2 refresh rate using Nvidia Inspector then the results are that my V-sync stutters totally disappear (Im using a 60Hz monitor). If you try this (it's worth a try !!!) make sure that when you create the Nvidia inspector profile you use the DCS.exe and not the launcher.exe to activate the profile. E:\DCS World\bin\DCS.exe This has made a massive difference to my game play and certainly worth trying..... i found that i can achieve much smoother game play with less FPS with these settings !!!... ... and Nvidia Inspector is a gem of a program !!!.. lokitexas Posted October 20, 2012 Author Posted October 20, 2012 Thanks Gunner. I believe I have used those settings before. I dont think its a setting issue as much as an optimization issue with 1.2.1 . I am getting decent fps, except in certain missions when certain things happen....like MLRS's shooting. Can you try your settings and monitor fps on "Battle" and "Gauntlet" missions for BS2? i5 3570k @ 4.3 560ti GTX 2gig 8gig RAM Intel SSD Win7 64bit
Gunnergolly Posted October 20, 2012 Posted October 20, 2012 (edited) Hello lokitexas. Haven't had time to test the Gauntlet mission but have just played the "Battle" mission and recorded the entire mission FPS (using the settings from my previous post) using FRAPS..... results make painful playing :(. MAX 30 (Capped value) AVG 25.2 MIN 6 !!!! I totally agree with you that there is still much optimization to be done within DCS world. Generally speaking lack of FPS is not really a problem for me too within the current build of World, but as we all know there are some major FPS killers which are spoiling the overall playing experience. I used to cap my FPS at 40 and then use the in-game V-Sync but when flying low and fast i noticed what i now call V-sync stutter. It really used to annoy me as my eyes are very sensitive to any screen tearing and micro stutters so i have to use V-Sync and i could never eliminate that stuttering. The settings that i suggested unfortunately won't help us with those FPS killers but they have now given me a "silky" smooth playing experience when flying low and fast whilst running at a relatively low capped FPS. Anyway when i have time i will give the "Gauntlet" mission a go, but i expect more painful playing with that one too !!!. Regards Gunner... i5 2600k@4.6Ghz, 8Gb Corsair RAM, Vertex SSD, EVGA 580GTX. Lange_666 Posted October 21, 2012 Posted October 21, 2012 I used to cap my FPS at 40 and then use the in-game V-Sync but when flying low and fast i noticed what i now call V-sync stutter. That V-Sync stutter is normal and you see it the moment your FPS goes under the V-Sync rate. If your monitor is set to freq of 60Hz, it means that you see the stutter when you go below that value. Just give it shot, fly low and fast, look left or right and the moment FPS goes below V-Sync, you see it stutter (almost not noticable on CRT monitors because of the afterglow of the CRT tube). The lower your FPS goes, the more you notice this kinda stutter (even on forward view), until you get to the next V-Synced FPS which in this case is 30 FPS. I used to set my monitor refreshrate to 50Hz to gain that little edge over setting it to 60Hz. Now the new nVidia setting for V-Sync (Adaptive V-Sync at half the refreshrate) is a nice solution to this problem because if you select this option, FPS is capped at 30 and the stutter effect is gone again (until you go below this 30 FPS). But it's a lot easier to maintain 30 FPS then it is to maintain a constant 60 FPS (but 60 is still a lot smoother then 30 and certainly the MFD displays when you put the video up, either TV or IR, because with the FPS capped at 30, the MFD's stutter slightly as where they are supersmooth at 60FPS). But even then, the moment FPS goes below 30, stutter is there. Yesterday, i made me a little mission to get back into the saddle after a year of absence, nothing special, just a cold and dark startup, single A-10C mission attacking a bridge defended by 2 AA ZU-23 guns and while diving towards the target, FPS went well below 20, and then the motion V-Sync stutter comes into view which just made met hit the QUIT button to lower again the ingame settings to medium or lower... PS: I just hope, for once, that someone brings out a sim where you buy a computer for that doesn't bring it to it's knees and where you have to wait 6 years before it becomes playable in full glory (like FC1 which runs all maxed now in my setup but then again... FC1 is a thing of the past). Win11 Pro 64-bit, Ryzen 5800X3D, Corsair H115i, Gigabyte X570S UD, EVGA 3080Ti XC3 Ultra 12GB, 64 GB DDR4 G.Skill 3600.
