Hello everybody I never considered buying DCS games before cos my PC was too old for them. Now with the new Desktop I'd like to give them a try, even if I'm not yet 100% sure that this genre is for me. A-10 sounds so good, but I have a question about the versions.... On Amazon I can buy a DVD version, and that would suit me cos my connection it's not so fast and recently bought a game from Origin that took around 1 week to download so I'0m quiet fed up with downloading. But it seems to me that the DVD Version are not updated any more, or at least the DCS World module seems to me with more recent updates and the only one that in the future will be further developed. So it has any sense to buy a DVD regional (German) version? As I said I'm not too much in the mood for downloading but if it is the only sensible option right now I'll than think about it in the near future.

You will have to download the full latest version whatever you do. And you use the serial from the disc to activate the A10 module from DCS world. The Disc is not the current version and its only use is the serial you get on the box. You can get the serial from steam and use it the same way.

Here's my 2 cents, assuming you haven't bought anything yet;

Go ahead and download DCS World 1.2.1

Run the Autoupdater untill you have version 1.2.1.6288 which currently is the latest. You can find the version number in the singleplayer menu in the lower right hand corner of the screen.

Now, before you buy ANYTHING. I'd suggest flying whit the SU-25T for a bit, it comes whit DCS World for free and should give an indication on how well (or bad) your system runs DCS World.

If your happy whit how it runs, then go ahead and buy the module you want and download it.

Modules are only a couple 100 MB so download time shouldn't be to bad this time round.

(biggest module is A10C, 356 MB)

ED-Shop

Download Modules

Please note, even though the sim may run well while flying the 25T, inspect a framerate drop when flying any of the DCS aircraft due to there much higher level of detail and simulated systems increasing the load on your system by a good bit.

No way to predict the framerate hit though.

So actually what does it happen if I buz the DVD version and install it from the DVD and not using the DCSWorld module? I get an older version or just doesn't it work anymore at all? Thanks anyway for your quick replies so far.

It will work. It is probably about a year out of date. I am guessing v1.1.0.7.

OK then maybe I ll buy the DVD one and if I like it I will then download the DCS World and Module when I have a faster connection..... And one more question please even if this is not the right Forum... Can you upgrade to Black Shark 2 from a DVD Copy of Black Shark 1 or again you need to download DCS World and Module first?

You can upgrade to an older version of BS2 without using DCS World. However, to do so will require downloading the BS2 upgrade version which is basically almost as big as DCS World.

Dude you still havent answered my question.

How fast ist you speed? I life in the same dilemma. Mine is 1,5 Mbit. means Download 180kb/sec...but this will change soon :D.

So how fast is yours. Download of the main core software (DCS World) takes roundabout 5-7 hours for me. The module takes roundabout 1 hour.

And one more question please even if this is not the right Forum... Can you upgrade to Black Shark 2 from a DVD Copy of Black Shark 1 or again you need to download DCS World and Module first?

Yes you can upgrade from DVD BlackShark 1 --> http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/index.php?scr=product&ProductId=13&end_pos=136&lang=en

However, to do so will require downloading the BS2 upgrade version which is basically almost as big as DCS World.

which again leads me to my question

Yes sorry MemphisBelle, at the moment I have a 4.2 MBit Internet Key but with a 5 GB Data per Month Cap. So big downloads are at the moment out of order not just cos of the Speed that anyway most of the time is much slower than the supposed one, but cos of that speed CAP. But I can still see if I find somebody I know kind enough to let me know this stuff, or wait till I get a fast home connection. TX everybody for your Help, it really looks like it's a very active and kind user Community.
