hi,

I don't know where to put this but here it goes, I was wondering what is the issue that prevent LO from having a multiseat add on? Is it AI or simply the engine would not allow you to switch between the front and back seat, which would be hard to do in alot of real AC as well. Would it be insainly impossible for ED to alter the AI a bit so that we could select the SU-30 and have an automatic WSO/RIO? next would it be equaly impossible to alter the menu slightly so that we could have an AI pilot so we could be the WSO?

and lastly what laws of the LO universe would have to be broken so that online players could fly as Pilot and WSO?

It's not impossible . . . . it would just require a significant amount of work, and isn't the top priority right now.

There was some experimental dual-control code with the Lomav v1.02 patch - I made a mod that turned the Su27 into a two-seater.

Unfortunately, they threw that bit of the code away when they reworked the multiplayer for Flaming Cliffs - they'd have to write it from scratch. It's possible to do, sure . . . . it's just not something that's top of the list at the moment.

In terms of the specific problems you have to solve - avionics research for the backseater, effective control of the AI to fly the backseat properly (front-seat AI would require pretty good pilot AI, which we just don't have right now), and lag problems over the internet.

They're solvable. It's just that it'd take a bit of work that ED doesn't want to do right now.

I'm guessing it could be a lot of fun when playing with a human co-pilot/pilot but when playing with AI it could probably get pretty frustrating, I guess you could switch back and forth between the seats but that wouldn't be very effective.

hi,

thanks for seting the record strait I guess this could be a good one for 1.4 or such...With the AI I think an AI WSO could be cool..it would have to be done with some options for locking on and fireing I imagine auto partial and none where auto is he locks on and fires all the time you just line him up..partial you press a key like tab and he desinates the target..and none he's just there for the ride and calling out bandits. The real problem would be the AI pilot...

. . . . . . And that's the real killer ;)

Sadly enough... but just think about how cool it would be to fly with a friend... Flyable B-52 with nuclear bombs... all on-board are humans.. maybe a 60's era mission... I'm thinking Dr. Strangelove with all the procedures with orders, codes and all that switch flipping.... man so cool!</dreaming>

Did you know Enemy Engaged:Comanche vs. Hokum featured cooperative, multiseat play via an internet connection?

IL2: Forgotten Battles + Ace's Expansion Pack + Pacific Fighters also has cooperative, multiseat play via an internet connection.

If ED focused on implementing this ability, especially since they are developing the Ka-50 HOKUM add-on, a definite multiple-crew aircraft, that would bing Lock-On to a new level of realism and enjoyment. Wether single or online play, a second, intelligent crew member would certainly add appeal to this game.

I am operating my Hokum as my WSO is engaging the baddies and dispensing countermeasures.... Ummm I can almost taste it now... can you ED?

Even games such as Wings Over Vietnam that do not feature a user capable station has a semi-intelligent WSO for the multiseat aircraft that will assist in combat and give that "feel there" sensation.

Certainly the AI need not be complex or sophisticated. A simple functionality allowing the player to fly and weapon deployment decisions left to the player but the AI is busy workin in the back.

For the Hokum, Enemy Engaged: Comanche vs. Hokum is the defacto standard for this helo sim and it would serve ED well to familiarize themselves with the work Razorworks has done for that most beautiful of helicopters.

The problem is to get your hands on technical manuals and stuff like that, we don't want a "sim" with too much guesses involved.

Thing is the Ka-50 is a single seater while the Hokum in EE:CvH is the Ka-52 which is a two seater. But I'm all for a flyable Su-30. I do not think you would really need a competant AI in the back seat or front just have the option to switch seats and operate both cockpits systems. Or just turn on an autopilot or combat autopilot while we mess around in the back seat.

Honestly Yellonet, I cannot believe obtaining tech manuals, pictures of instrument panels, etc. could at all be difficult if not impossible for ED considering their access to these aircraft (Russian) in their country.

If not, then Janes publishes entire volumes of information on just about anything you wanna know about military aviation.

Not about anything... unfortunately. :icon_roll

I live in England - I guess that means I can get tech manuals and cockpit photos of the Eurofighter!

Hot damn! My Typhoon sim will be coming out next year!!

Janes tend to publish specs - not detailed operational manuals.

The exception is the "How to fly and fight in the MiG29" . . . . saw a copy in a bookshop once and kicked myself for not buying it then, never seen one since.

In any case - that's an exception, based on the publicly available MiG29 flight manual. The MiG has no combat-effective two-seat version . . . .

Flight manuals for the Ka52 and Su30?

Erm . . . . . classified, anyone?

Actually as we are living and working in Moskow and most design bureaues are in Moskow (some are just two metro stations away from our office) we have better chances to get something usefull for russian planes than anybody who is living in London. :)
