Hi all,

I hosted an open server last night, but forgot that there was such a thing as a knob head. How do I kick players from my server?

Cheers

Andy

Esc. menu -> press 'pool' -> highlight player -> press 'KICK'

When Servman 3 is installed on your server, you can use "/kick [playername]" or "/bankick [playername]" in the chatline as a command.

Doc... I run an open server as well and though we don't get many smacktards I must admit not long ago I actually saw someone go through a startup procedure on an A-10C, only to taxi to my hangar during my startup, flip off his ground safety switch and pull the trigger on me for 5 seconds. I mean- that takes some serious commitment to being a total douche.

While I don't see it often... now that the community is expanding towards much less technical platforms... I can only hope the occurrences don't grow proportionately.

Servman 3 is not working 100%... there are a few small items that aren't working but the logging, the kicking and the bantables are working. If you don't get a chance to ban a guy before he leaves, you can sift through your logs and get his ucid and add him manually. The items that aren't working 100% are the public messaging- so the daily messages etc... These can help warn people that they are being monitored and will be kicked- and this can encourage people to watch what they shoot... Or it can enable people to go on suicidal missions to kill guys on their team knowing full well it's their only shot at it. At least you know the person can't get back in. Their absence isn't crucial- but it should be noted since it will APPEAR like servman is not working on your server... though it is in fact doing exactly what it's supposed to do- just not in the way it always USED to prior to 1.2.0.

What I'd like to recommend is that those of us who have established bantables SHARE their information.

I know over at the firehouse server we are interested in helping others take a proactive stance in protecting your servers and your memberships / players from these morons. With that being said, we don't want to be involving the hosts of our forums in potential flame wars back and forth between people who just want to stir the pot and force mods to shut down the conversation.

What we are doing is accumulating certain bits of information- the ucid, track / server chat log (servman), time of offense (approximate), tacview file and putting it into a gdrive / googledrive account. We can then provide the link to the drive on request through IM. This information substantiates the ban... and makes it almost impossible to argue.

This also minimizes fratricide in the public forums, keeps the forum hosts out of it... and reduces potential public blow-back while still allowing people to host open servers and keeping the fun and cooperation we cherish in these sims alive.

So I ask the community of hosts of dedicated servers to please share your bantable information amongst ourselves so that we can be proactive in our avoidance of this nuissance instead of reactive.

Servman works good here on the critical administrationpart of the server. Im sure stuff will be glitchy when you use the 'main.lua' file provided from the latest download which is from an old 'main.lua' file.

It seems to work much better with a bit of personal modification which fits the DCS 1.2.2 jacket, but you might already know that too. :glare:

Recommending a witchhunt by sharing bantables is too much negative stuff for me my friend. its also just a game, theres no real damage apart from a busted ego. Im also not so sure if ED likes it very much if customers start to cast other customers publicly out on their media platform. There might even be a 'terms of use' violation somewhere inthere regarding the licence you use from ED. The rabbithole is deeper.

Old teddybears are a good solution in this case, id tie him up in the basement and put a gardenhose behind in his zipper.

Currently i work on an Addon for slmod(AdminTools)

If i implemented Teamkill and Teamdamage, i will release that Addon!

Runs fine on STP-Servers!

-autoresume if server is paused (joining an Slot)

-Highpingkick with 2 diffferent Pings (1 with warning, the other for instantkick)

-temp. ban if client was kicked to often

-autopause and missionrestart (or autorotate) if Server is empty

I don't have to extra hardware to run a dedicated server. How is servman when using my machine in a server/client role? I presume I am going to have to switch between aps to use this?

You know, on the one hand that is pretty pathetic, on the other hand I couldn´t help but snicker when I read that... :D

Nope- doesn't change anything... In fact unless you use some of the enhanced functions- squad level, sub admin level- you won't even know its there. It creates extra logs and it polices activity. That's it that's all.

Hey Brood- or anyone else who knows the programming in servman... we're getting some pretty common errors referencing some sort of issue when servman tries to access / write to / process a directive in addons / server.lua-

Perhaps only coincidentally (that whole connection / causation thing) we've started experiencing more disconnects since I installed servman- in fact the log shows it in the middle of processing a line from servman midstream when the crash happened.

I've also noticed that it announces when someone joins the server, lands... or crashes but doesn't display when they leave. I'm wondering if that may be the cause of the error.

Is that substantial enough to cause a server to crash? Probably not but I'd sure like to fix it.

Brood- is there any chance that your tailored main.lua (I've got the one from around may last year according to the file properties) would work better for our 1.2.2? Any chance you could share that? Or perhaps forward along suggested modifications? I'm really quite useless when it comes to actually understanding the language- though I am confident enough in it to access it, and make changes as necessary (provided I have a template to work off of).

I'd really appreciate that help...

Anyone?

Sadly servman hasnt been supported for over a year and is very out dated now

It was (and still is!) my preferred choice on the VA server

I am running Slmod on the Hollo Pointe server and it works well for maintaining lists of admins and banned players. I'm pretty sure it is Slmod that is on The Firehouse now, too.

Here is the link to the latest Slmod, v7 2 63.

I will also share my ban list (about 25 players are on it). PM me to get a copy. I have 10% tolerance for the people who made it onto the list; what I mean is, if you are on it you have a 90% chance of staying on it.
