Major SNAFU Posted November 16, 2012 Posted November 16, 2012 Hi all, I am in need of some upgrade suggestions. Completely replacing my current system is not possible right now, but I can spend a "reasonable" amount on upgrades. Currently I have: AYSUS P5K-E Intel 2 Quad CPU running at 2.4 2 GB RAM WinXP SP3 NVidia GeForce 8800 GTS Lian Li case 700 Watt power supply I am planning on moving to Win7 64-bit, although I am concerned about this as I run many legacy wargames that may no longer function and this will be a major problem for me. I also am not sure if I can keep the same motherboard and processor. If not, the I may have to gut the case and start from scratch. My next concern is that I have multiple HDDs with lots of game files, pictures, etc. Will these all be read on a 64-bit machine without issue? I am expecting, at the least to replace the video card (nothing bleeding edge), the OS and the power supply and add RAM. I am seeking recommendations Thanks,
agrasyuk Posted November 16, 2012 Posted November 16, 2012 aside of case and PSU everything is very outdated. I would start with platform: 400$ can buy a reasonably ok MB, CPU and RAM. of course new platform will require a new install of windows. at this point you might as well get a Win7 on it. Anton. Kuky Posted November 16, 2012 Posted November 16, 2012 You best change the mobo/cpu/ram and video card. Your HDD will work fine with win7 64bit but anything you have on same partition with OS will be lost if you reformat that partition, any other partitions that you have for file storage will not be affected.
