LNR212 Posted November 18, 2012 Posted November 18, 2012 Why not adding the airfields/maps from lomac (crimea/krim) to dcs world? Shouldnt this be relatively easy to do this? I loved this scenery...
Xeno426 Posted December 5, 2012 Posted December 5, 2012 +1. I'd love to have the airbases and ground region that was in LOMAC back again, plus that one airbase in Turkey.
Witchking Posted December 5, 2012 Posted December 5, 2012 I think it has to do with something about limited number of objects in the map in the current engine. I don't know if this has since changed. Xeno426 Posted December 5, 2012 Posted December 5, 2012 I think it has to do with something about limited number of objects in the map in the current engine. Is that something ECHO (or whatever the next terrain engine is called) is supposed to fix?
Cedaway Posted December 5, 2012 Posted December 5, 2012 (edited) Is that something ECHO (or whatever the next terrain engine is called) is supposed to fix? Eagle Dynamic Graphic Engine (EDGE) And the terrain is DCS Tactical Terrain (DTAC) ;) EDIT: (Offtopic) doing some research across the web, I found this: Yury Uralsky, NVIDIA Corporation Yury Uralsky became interested in games and computer graphics when the ZX Spectrum 48K was a dream machine and writing software rasterizers in assembly language was fun. He received an M.S. in computer science from the Moscow State Technical University in 2001. He worked as a graphics engine programmer for Eagle Dynamics, creating graphics for the flight simulator LockOn: Modern Air Combat. He joined the NVIDIA Developer Technology group in March 2004 and enjoys pushing 3D graphics forward in the NVIDIA Moscow office. The man who has (co-)developed the graphic engine of LOMAC joined Nvidia Dev Tech group in 2004! Impressive. Edited December 5, 2012 by Cedaway DCS Wish: Turbulences affecting surrounding aircraft... Cedaway Posted December 5, 2012 Posted December 5, 2012 I think it was for legal reasons. The kind of legal reason that oblige us to install LOMAC ou FC1 prior to install FC3 I guess:music_whistling: DCS Wish: Turbulences affecting surrounding aircraft... Xeno426 Posted December 5, 2012 Posted December 5, 2012 I think it was for legal reasons. I don't see how. It's not like Ubisoft can copywrite real-world map locations.
St3v3f Posted December 5, 2012 Posted December 5, 2012 I don't see how. It's not like Ubisoft can copywrite real-world map locations. No. But they can (and do) have a copyright on a specific implimentation. Nothing's keeping anyone from doing a terrain in that region, but you are not allowed to take the one Ubisoft has without their permission. Long story short, it would have to be done from scratch and they can't just take it and make it usable for DCS aka: Baron [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Dusty Rhodes Posted December 5, 2012 Posted December 5, 2012 I would pay to get the Crimean Penninsula back. I loved it and it opened a wide array of mission and campaign possibilities. sobek Posted December 5, 2012 Posted December 5, 2012 I don't see how. It's not like Ubisoft can copywrite real-world map locations. For ED to not have to license the IP, they need to offer a product that is adequately different in certain points. IANAL so don't ask me how this looks in detail or why the map seems to have been one of these key factors, that's just how it is. Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two. Come let's eat grandpa! VIKBELL Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 I guess keep expanding where we can more torward turkey and greece. There are 2 categories of fighter pilots: those who have performed, and those who someday will perform, a magnificent defensive break turn toward a bug on the canopy. Robert Shaw
Mhiester Posted June 12, 2013 Posted June 12, 2013 I guess keep expanding where we can more torward turkey and greece. Wrap around the whole world until there's everything except Crimea

Long story short, it would have to be done from scratch and they can't just take it and make it usable for DCS But doesn't the current DCS map still include a significant portion of LOMAC-era map ? The only part missing is the old Flanker-era Crimea, if I'm not mistaken. The best part of Caucasus (from anapa to Sukhumi and Maykop, I believe) is from LOMAC. PS: I would also like to see more or Turkey. Although, ideally I would rather have new maps around the world. 2nd French Fighter Squadron
