Hello all,

I have a problem with the server list. When I click to do a new server list search, I got random list of servers.

One time the list will contain 20 servers, the other time the list will contain only 5 servers...

What is annoying, is that when I want to join a friend's server, I need to try 30-40 times before seeing it in the server list!

I also tried to do a "Connect by IP" but I always get the "Connection interrupted" message.

My internet connection is not really fast, but it should be enough to load a server list :) (2,5Mb/s)

Is it a known problem? Is there a solution?

Cheers,

Cam'

A server is shown on the list only after it answers a UDP request.

Each request is retried 3 times (3 seconds between each attempt) until the server is deemed unreachable.

So severe list problems tell that you have a serious packet loss on you side.

You can profile your network with http://pingtest.net/ using several servers in different parts of the world.

Hello.

I will test as soon as I'm back home. But it could explain the problem.

I am using BPL for my home connection. I guess they are the cause of the packet loss.

Maybe using wifi will be better. I need to try it.

A comment though: I never had the problem with DCS: BS or DCS: A10. The problems appeared in DCS World. Did you do any change that might explain it?

Thanks.

Ok so I tested. I don't have any packet loss. I tried a lot of servers and there are no problems on pingtest.

Yet, I still have the problem. I can't see all the server at the same time. It was working well in DCS A10 and I have the problem since DCS World.

Any idea?

do a Direct IP connect to your friends sever.

also make sure the correct ports are open and forwarded.

one day your NAT can be OPEN, one day your NAD can be Moderate, One Day your NAT can be STRICT depending on the dumbest things, like what IP your Routers DHCP Server Gives your PC when it's normal 1-7 day lease ends.

Thanks for the answer.

The ports are correctly opened and I have a fixed IP on my local network.

When I try to do a Direct IP connect, I get the "Connection interrupted" message (happens everytime and it is instantly)

What could be blocking the comms? I deactivated the firewall, antivirus on windows at least during the tries. I don't see what could cause the problem... :(

Is there a way to be sure the port are forwarded correctly, some kind of testing tool? It should be ok but it's worth checking.

Ok so I tried with PFPortChecker and it said that my ports were closed.

I checked in my router settings and it seemed ok.

I deleted all the settings - reboot.

Then I tried by setting my computer in DMZ -> Ports checked OK, it's open

Then I set back only the 10308 and the ports are detected as opened by PFPortChecker.

I don't really understand why they were not opened, but now it seems to be ok.

I'll test with my mates next week if the problem is solved.

Thanks guys for your help!

Opened and Forwarded are 2 different things. But cause the same problem.

You can open them, but if you dont forward them, it's the same result, packets werent getting to the client, either by being sent elsewhere or by being Held by the DHCP Server in the router.

You can forward them, but if you dont open them, they'll never get past the fire wall.

Sometimes routers can be tricky, as Dynamic DHCP will assign you 1 local IP one day (ie 192.168.1.23) and then when you reboot and your Network adapter requests a IP it will give you a different one (192.168.1.65), so any ports you had setup to forward to 192.168.1.23 on the Local network, will technically be closed to you, as the DHCP is trying to send them to a different IP.

My Dlink has Both Static IPs set for Gaming devices (PC, Xbox), as well as Gaming Mode, which pretty much opens everything. DMZ Puts Your Device outside of the Firewall and DHCP, so it "shares" the Same IP as the Router, the same IP your Modem is assigned. so packets will go directly to your PC and no port forwarding is needed. But it will stop packets from going through DHCP to other devices.

Make sure you set static IPs in your router for Gaming Devices or devices that rely on ports being forwarded to function.

Best thing to do is assign the PC a STATIC IP Address and Open/Forward Ports to your system.

if you have multiple systems, it's best to take the Firewall down and forward to both ports.

as I have this issue with DCS and BF3,

I connect and play, 10 minutes later my brother connects, i get booted with a connection timeout error, because the router starts routing the connection to his PC.

Okay so I was able to test it. My ports are opened and forwarded correctly.

I still have the problem but it seems to be better. After 5-7 tries, I usually manage to see the game of my buddy. So I'll say it's enough for me at the moment.

Thanks.
