dburne Posted November 25, 2012 Posted November 25, 2012 Hey gang, I know with the Warthog, the pov hat is used to trim the aircraft in A-10C - mine by default, is set up to where I need to press control while moving the pov hat to trim the aircraft - undoubtedly because this hat is used as a POV view control. I have Track IR and only use it whilst in exterior view. Just curious how others may have theirs set up - like maybe assigning a button as a modifier, like the paddle switch? Would be nice to be able to trim without having to reach for the keyboard. EtherealN Posted November 25, 2012 Posted November 25, 2012 I have it on trim, no modifier. If you use it for view only when specifically doing eye candy runs in exterior view, wouldn't it be better to have the modifier assigned for THAT time rather than have modifiers for the key function that you will use constantly? :) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Daniel "EtherealN" Agorander | Даниэль "эфирныйн" Агорандер Intel i7 2600K @ 4.4GHz, ASUS Sabertooth P67, 8GB Corsair Vengeance @ 1600MHz, ASUS GTX 560Ti DirectCU II 1GB, Samsung 830series 512GB SSD, Corsair AX850w, two BENQ screens and TM HOTAS Warthog DCS: A-10C Warthog FAQ | DCS: P-51D FAQ | Remember to read the Forum Rules | | | Life of a Game Tester

dburne Posted November 25, 2012 Author Posted November 25, 2012 So with my Warthog, would the paddle be a good modifier to add to the view commands as related to the POV, I am assuming the paddle is not already being used by default elsewhere? Sorry I am still pretty new to the sim. I took a look under the view commands in the control options for A-10C and see where the pov hat is assigned for the different view movements, like look up, down left, down, etc etc. Is there a way just to add the paddle as the modifier to these existing commands or will I need to re-assign each one with using the paddle as a modifier? dburne Posted November 25, 2012 Author Posted November 25, 2012 You'll need to reassign each command. But I don't understand why would you want to do this if you already have a TIR. You're aware that the Numpad keys also control the view, right ? The only reason I am considering, is to be able to not have a modifier with my trim button, so can easily trim the aircraft with the pov hat as designed, and then when in external view have the same hat available to move my view around. Maybe I really don't need that option, I know I can use the mouse as well to move that view around. Perhaps that is what I will do ,thanks. dburne Posted November 25, 2012 Author Posted November 25, 2012 Well that didn't work so well, I re-assigned trim to my pov hat removing the ctrl modifer, then, I re-assigned the view commands that were on my pov hat, to use the paddle as a modifier. Took a test flight, and it was still affecting my trim even through I was holding in the paddle switch before moving the pov hat. I just cleared out the view commands, and will just leave the hat for trimming only - if I need to move my view around while in exterior view , I will just use the numpad on the keyboard, or the mouse for that. chardly38 Posted November 25, 2012 Posted November 25, 2012 I have Tracker and use the hat for trimming only. In external I use my mouse for view. For me I have a tracker ball mouse and it makes views easy. MatzWarhog Posted November 25, 2012 Posted November 25, 2012 My TM Warthog was the same, POV HAT on the stick. As soon as my TIR5 was installed, it changed itself to Trim only, and TIR took over for POV. Sticking with the mouse or numpad for external views is the way to go, IMO. However, I would like the paddle to re-center my Track IR, and have yet to get that accomplished. TIR still wants to use F12, which interfers with "Exit" on the radio commands. dburne Posted November 25, 2012 Author Posted November 25, 2012 Yeah I have pretty much relegated myself to just using the pov hat for trimming purposes only at this point. Did you try assigning the paddle from within the Track IR software for the recenter command, for the profile you are running? Eight Ball Posted November 25, 2012 Posted November 25, 2012 (edited) whoops wrong thread But yeah MatzWarhog, it should be possible, I've assigned mine to pressing the mic switch. However it might be a better idea to keep your paddle switch as a modifier, personal preference again. I may have to try it with DCS World running in the background. Should not have to have DCS running to do this. Edit: Make sure, you have the correct profile loaded when you go to set it as your re-center command. Look under titles, and see what profile loads with your DCS-A10C, that will be the profile you will want to modify your re-center command to, or select a different profile if you prefer and modify that one. I have a custom profile named DCS, that I have set to load with the sim under the titles section. jd_jay Posted November 26, 2012 Posted November 26, 2012 Glad I've stumbled across this post, I have trackir and hotas warthog, for some reason I can't get rid of the lctrl modifier which I have to use with the trim hat, it's not assigned to anything else, I just want to be able to use the trim hat on its own [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Rubberduck Posted November 26, 2012 Posted November 26, 2012 Matz, and everybody else, if you want to use the pinkie paddle as a modifier you have to add it as such. When you go into options to change the commands there is a modifier button, if you then click on that it lists the modifiers available, such as LCNTRL, RSHIFT ect, there is an option to add a modifier, click this then operate the pinkie paddle, bingo your pinkie paddle is now a modifier and when you change commands with this pressed it appears in the modifier box and your command in the command window. It's how I set my HAT on the warthog up as trim but POV with the pinkie paddle, I have also set up the throttle button as a cancel master caution with the pinkie paddle and also reset tTRIM is pinkie paddle and weapon release. dburne Posted November 26, 2012 Author Posted November 26, 2012 I removed the left control as a modifier for my trim hat, the trim hat now works appropriately by itself. However when I added the paddle as a modifier for the trim hat, for moving the view in exterior mode, the hat still also trimmed the aircraft even with holding the paddle in, which was strange. That is why I just settled for moving the view in exterior with the mouse or numpad. Rubberduck Posted November 26, 2012 Posted November 26, 2012 I cleared all of the controls assigned to these 2 functions and then started afresh, this seemed to work. jd_jay Posted November 26, 2012 Posted November 26, 2012 Any ideas why I can remove the lctrl modifier? Only started using this weekend? When I re assign the trim hat it shows only the trim hat but when I come out of that window lctrl is back in front of it, have also had a look in the modifier window? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

When I re assign the trim hat it shows only the trim hat but when I come out of that window lctrl is back in front of it, have also had a look in the modifier window? That is strange - when you go to assign the new control, are you clearing the existing one first? I just did this and did not have a problem - I first cleared the existing control, and then assigned the new by pressing the hat switch in the appropriate direction for each trim function. Rubberduck Posted November 26, 2012 Posted November 26, 2012 Yep think you need to clear the modifier too, plus add the pinkie paddle as a modifier, so the game knows the button, you can then assign it to what you want, as I have done.
