Anatoli-Kagari9 Posted December 12, 2012 Posted December 12, 2012 (edited) Well, I couldn't resist the beauty of the concept - DCS World as a whole - and offered me the BS2 :-) Surprisingly and since I believe the sophistication of the simulation is at least as deep as the one in the p51d, probably even more given the many war systems, the fact is that it's a smoother ride (in fps terms...) than the p51d ? Could someone elaborate a little bit more on the possible reasons and also on where I should try to improve the performance of the p51d graphic-wise without having to buy another graphics card? I am running win7 Home Premium 64bit, with 8GB RAM (DDR3) and a Geeforce 450 GTS 1GB DDR5... I get between 12-30 fps with the p51d, and 30+ with the bs2 ... Blarney Posted December 12, 2012 Posted December 12, 2012 I have run into something similar with P-51D. I also own both P-51D and BS2. Frame rates are good in P-51D, until I my strafing run gets to about 300 feet above the ground. Then...slide show. Pulling out of my dive, guns still firing, leveling off. I get it that there is a heavy demand for number crunching at this point, but doing the same thing in BS2 does not lead to the same drop in FPS. My computer specs are in my signature below. Is the drop in FPS due to GPU or CPU? 486DX w/turbo button
VH-Rock Posted December 12, 2012 Posted December 12, 2012 I can't say I've suffered any noticeable performance drop in DCS at all yet, although I built a new rig this year to quite high specs so I wouldn't expect to. Interesting how this only happens with the 51 guns though Virtual Horsemen - Right Wing (P-51) - 2008... Virtual Ultimate Fighters - Lead (P-47) - 2020...
Blarney Posted December 12, 2012 Posted December 12, 2012 Yeah, no problem weaving in and out of buildings, harassing the local populace, but as soon as I pull the trigger at low altitudes...slide show. 486DX w/turbo button
Ratfink Posted December 12, 2012 Posted December 12, 2012 Yeah, no problem weaving in and out of buildings, harassing the local populace, but as soon as I pull the trigger at low altitudes...slide show. Same here with HD5770. I normally have 30-40 fps until firing the guns, then it reduces 50%. I'm guessing the smoke effect is causing a lot for something to process, but is it CPU or GPU? Either way, it would be nice to be able to scale some of the effects to prevent such a fps hit. Shein Posted December 12, 2012 Posted December 12, 2012 I OC'd both my GPU and CPU, and I saw more of a difference with the CPU than I did GPU, just food for thought. CPU is an Ivy Bridge I7, GPU is a GTX 670 FTW
Cavinca Posted December 19, 2012 Posted December 19, 2012 Blarney, ratfink Both of your situations sound like something i have encountered in multiple games. My issue was with the Saitek X-52. I see ratfink has this guy. I assume your using a profile with your X-52, try wiping the trigger bits of the profile. assign the trigger in-game. This has fixed all my games.

StoOopiD Posted December 24, 2012 Posted December 24, 2012 (edited) Ive been scrounging around for some more frames too. i managed to double my frames. TURN OFF MIRRORS, HDR, CIVILIANS, VSYNC WATER ON LOW 2X AA nvidia driver set to global, everything application controlled, set to high performance textures with optimizations ON try that. i went from 15-20 on the ground, 30-35 flying to 30-35 on the ground and 45-50 flying I think the main FPS killer is the Mirrors Edited December 24, 2012 by StoOopiD 1 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Crosshair VIII hero wifi, 3800x w/ Enermax 360 AIO cooler (push-pull), 32gigs DDR4 Ripjaws 3600, Win 10 home on a Plextor PCI-E x4 3gb/s HD, EVGA 2070 Super FTW3 ultra+, Soundblaster Z Rift S, M$FFB2, CH Pro throttle, Saitek pedals BS2, A10C, P51D, SPITFIRE, FC3, Uh-1H, F86, Mi-8MTV2, SA342, MIG21-bis, AV8BNA, F14, F16, FA-18C, SUPERCARRIER
SmokeyTheLung Posted December 24, 2012 Posted December 24, 2012 but doing the same thing in BS2 does not lead to the same drop in FPS. Maybe it's because the the p51 has six guns firing at once, at a higher rate (I think). I hope it can get worked out... The performance drop in the last few builds has been frustrating System specifications: Computer, joystick, DCS world, Beer
