Ordered! Also ordering an Obutto R3volution today, so when it comes (in February probably) I'll be using the extension with that.

I ordered 10cm, but if that turns out to be too long for me, will I be able to hacksaw off what I don't need?

cheers guys, everything will be ready to go on monday :-).

@ hokie17 - if you can do a clean cut it shouldn't be a problem. I'try to screw the connector in instead of gluing it. hopefully it will work

merry xmas everyone. the stick extensions are on the way since 24th morning. Once my PC will be working again I'll send you the tracking numbers (the bloody thing died on me and doesn't even beep)

This looks great, couple of questions though.

A. Do I have to dismantle the warthog and do rewiring to get this to work, or does it just unscrew from base, slot extension in then handle reattaches to extension.?

B. I have no way of attaching warthog to my seat, so could I or should I place warthog on floor and will I then be able to get a long enough extension to bring handle upto seat height?

( ahhh bugger, just measured it, looks like I got my cm and inches mixed up, I would need a 70cm extension to sit Warthog on floor. ) Back to drawing board I guess. :(

Thanks for answering these in advance, very intrested, I take it the $122 NZD is for delivery for UK.

Happy Christmas all.

Thanks Zahry! Hopefully mine makes it on the fast boat to the USA and not the slow boat from China ;)

Hi cowboy10uk, it just unscrews from base, slot it in and all done. I think 70 cm would be bit too big throw unless you'll use pivots to reduce the stick movent (bit complicated tho). 7,5cm on table should work much better. The shipping is 122 to Uk.

Thanks for getting back to me on this holiday, much appreciated.

Currently looking at other options to mount my stick first, ( figured out 70cm would be slightly too long. ) then I can work out the correct length I need. Will be back home on the 2nd Jan, so hopefully will be able to work out measurements then.

Have a great holiday.

And I'm in

I checked the forum today just to see how you were tracking and you've already turned into a one man international factory - you don't mess around!

Orders in, can't wait.

Cheers Zahry.

Hey - I used a stick extension for my warthog for awhile and also did not have a good mount at first. I already had a simple "pit" using pvc piping (it holds a side-stick, throttle, and pedals). I used a plan from roger doger aviation (I think). To use the warthog, I simply built a center stand using PVC pipes, a few pieces of wood, and some velcro to stick the warthog on it when needed. I added connection from the center mount to the pvc pit to keep it in place when in use. It worked pretty darn well. I decided to use my warthog as a side stick for now, so now this center mount is a good foot rest, or holds random items when I'm out of desk space :).

Anyway, just an idea. If it could help I could send some pictures. In any case, good luck on making/finding a center mount!

Also - the stick extension was very awesome. I did about a 4 inch extension (home made) because that's how long it needed to be with my center stand. I had the stick base as far up and as close to my chair as I could, with the large base plate going just under the chair.

I would highly suggest just buying the stick extension - it was a bit frustrating to build my own, and I don't think it was perfectly straight ;), and I like that he already has plugs setup. When I go back to using center mount I'll definitely get one.

Hi Tallon, Thanks for the offer, I think I have that PVC design floating about on PDF on my ipad, the plan I'm currently thinking of, is stealing this idea from RedX http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=1121508&postcount=18

The seat looks exactly like mine, and I think it would work well.

My plan is, when I get back home, (currently away for the holidays) is to get the stick mounted on the seat, hopefully shouldn't take too long, then I can measure, what length of extension I need from Zahry. Then of course get the order in.

I can guarantee Zahry Will be getting an order from me. :) fingers crossed, adding an extension will improve my air to air refuelling, as it should allow for better control inputs, at least that's how I understand extensions to work.

If however my plans crash and burn, at least now thans to you, I have a plan B :)

Wow - that's a great idea! I am going to have to try that out.

One concern I have is that in one of his pictures it looks like the joystick might lean forward rather than be straight up like it should. You should post some pictures when you get it setup!

Just got mine, but having trouble getting it to screw onto the Warthog base. Any ideas?

EDIT: Problem appears to be the screws used to hold the PS2 connector onto the extension. They have round heads and are stopping the extension from making a secure connection. Should I use flattened headed screws (if so, what size), or will the connection stick without those two screws?

OK, for it to work properly you need to unplug the stick, when the ps2 cable is connected then plug it in. It wont work if you change while the stick is plugged in - usually.

if you have the ps2 cable only plugged in and then plug it in to the pc and it doesnt work then you have a faulty cable. It happened to me a couple of times but it is rare.

The part that screwed it up for me was when milling out the recess, it was very particular about how deep you could go. Go too far and you would sever the connection. It happened to me after about the 15th one I made and since then I tested every one I modded which was a pita but I caught another couple.

I pulled out a regular PS/2 extension cable and modified as you said in the thread at SimHQ and put it in between the base and the handle and it works.

I then hooked the extension's cable to the base, and my PS2 cable from the extension to the handle. That works.

I'm starting to conclude that the extension is not making a connection with the handle.

By the way, if you didn't know, my screen name everywhere else is RogueSqdn.

Sounds like you have found the issue, now you have to figure out the solution. I have never seen one so out of thoughts on the debugging process now.

Well, I suppose you could figure out if the connection is failing at the top of the bottom by reassembling half of it and plugging the cable in directly to the other half.

The handle-end of the extension cable is hot glued into the plastic bit that has the handle thread on it. I pulled out the hot glue with needle nose pliers and the extension cable itself is ok.

The problem is the hole that it comes out of is not big enough to allow the extension cable to protrude sufficiently for a connection to the handle.

Posted

Thats a bugger, now you have to figure out if you want to hack at it or wait for another.

Any way you can get your other cable and trim the edges so that it fits in the hole. It wont be secure but it could get it going without doing surgery on the extension itself.

I have the same problem with the screws you mentioned. They pretrude too far out, and therefore you can't screw the extension into the base unit with those big screw heads in the way. How did you solve this?
